Jesus pursued the vulnerable, protected the little ones, and poured out compassion on the ‘least of these.’ Any dismissal of abuse, any baptizing of evil, any cover-up, or denial of truth is nothing like Him.

Pardon my handwritten reflection in two images, cobbled together.

I sit with people in complicated grief every day. I sit with my own heart, as well. This is a letter to my heart – and maybe to yours as well, if you’ll receive it.

The work of redemption in broken places is a hard and dark place to go, but it is also a place of great beauty and hope. Shackles fall away, crippled feet run, stooped backs stand straight, truth is embraced, and hopes bloom.

It's tragic and infuriating that the administrative processes to support making schools safer for children in South Africa are not being streamlined and prioritised to the degree that would make an actual difference

A Facebook post unearthed a legend: the lost MingKwai typewriter, designed by Lin Yutang in 1947, resurfaced in a NY basement. Hailed as a marvel yet dismissed as a failure, its rediscovery revives debates over innovation, identity, and what it means to be Chinese, writes @yangyangcheng.bsky.social.
Lost and Found: The Unexpected Journey of the MingKwai Typewriter | Made in China Journal
It began as an innocuous inquiry on Facebook. Nelson Felix, a resident of New York State, posted in the group ‘What’s My Typewriter Worth?’ about a curious find he made while clearing out the basement...

This is a statement from white South African Christian leaders in response to US government pronouncements about injustice in South Africa that totally misconstrue the real injustice in our nation!
Declaring that the president of the USA is “wrong” feels as foolish as this little flower daring to bring beauty in lifeless tarmac. But we do it anyway.
So I signed this: Statement from White South African Christian Leaders on Recent Actions by the US Government

We don’t need to pretend the brokenness in ourselves or in the world is not there in order for us to celebrate Christmas. It is for this very brokenness that Jesus came, so vulnerably, to love and to heal and to restore.

Google gives some wildly inaccurate currency valuations in the charts that appear when searching for conversions.
Here's a search for USD in ZAR, showing the last month's values.
Note the rate of 12.39 on the 25th and 26th of October,
and similar rates around 14 or 15 on subsequent weekends.

Ubuntu 24.04 uses the new deb822 style .sources files in /etc/apt/sources.list.d/ and attempts some convert on upgrade to the new release. But there are no tools to do such a conversion automatically, despite the internet being full of instructions to create .list files as part of deployments
