"if the concern had been that TikTok could be a conduit for Chinese government propaganda—a concern the Supreme Court declined to even consider—people can now be concerned that TikTok could be a conduit for U.S. government propaganda"

And it's not over. It's not just TikTok. The law authorizes the President to designate other foreign-adversary-controlled applications as threats to national security and subject to being banned. www.congress.gov/bill/118th-c... And who is a "foreign adversary" is quite fluid these days.

Have lots of told-you-sos about the TikTok sale to Trump friends being consummated www.nytimes.com/2026/01/22/t... And now these friends get to decide what what posts to take down which surely will be nothing because they think all content moderation is evil.

and apparently the State Department is afraid to respond to my comment that the travel restrictions and purely vindictive and intended to chill all public opposition

@technologyreview.com was kind enough to listen to me rant about how the Trump administration and chunks of the US right view freedom of expression as a means to preserve their power and privilege and not as a human right that balances power. www.technologyreview.com/2026/01/19/1...

It's even worse than when the State Dept said that Nigeria suspending Twitter had "no place in a democracy" and then the US government went and banned TikTok -- at least with that one there were a few years in between 2021-2025.state.gov/nigerias-twi...

(A) Aylo must age gate anyway even if disabling access from Indiana, and
(B) Aylo violates consumer laws by deceiving "Hoosier parents" to believe that their sites weren't accessible when they knew about VPNs.

Indiana: There is no magic tech that will make your law sensible.

The report's conclusion didn't reject neckdowns. Just the neckdown in this location. Personally I think better-signed neckdowns would work great on Kirkham between 8th & 9th and 7th & 8th and also between 15th &16th.

Yikes. US will [attempt to] deny H-1B visas to social media fact-checkers and content moderators.

"the President himself was the victim of this kind of abuse when social media companies locked his accounts. He does not want other Americans to suffer this way."

ICYMI, like I did, two days ago, DOJ indicted two members of what it called "a North Texas Antifa Cell" for providing material support to terrorists (18 U.S.C. § 2339A), apparently the "Antifa cell" itself. And I think this is first court use of Antifa as a terrorist org. www.nlg.org/wp-content/u...

Yeah, sadly this court has consistently found, relying on 11th Cir precedent, that Pico, being only a plurality opinion, has no precedential value. Here's what this court said in its first ruling on a motion to dismiss last April (this is 731 F.Supp.3d 1298)

“Yes, they do.” Judge in AAUP v Rubio unequivocally finds that noncitizens in the US have dame First Amendment rights as citizens, and finds Trump admin violated them

Just a reminder amid all the cheering for Americans "having control of the algorithm" that SCOTUS found that Congress was really only concerned about data collection and declined to even consider the constitutional concerns about seizing editorial control of the algorithm

Like WTF does this mean? "the licensed copy will be “retrained” with U.S. data to make sure the system is “behaving appropriately.”" Behaving like Trump wants broadcast licensees to behave? Like Clay Higgins wants social media platforms to behave? Like Pam Bondi wants all speakers to behave?
