Typically an explanatory guy and a second banana who agrees with everything. I think the baseball writers are more analytically savvy.

I think some of the local basketball and baseball announcing teams are actually pretty good, and more entertaining than their Japanese counterparts. But the national announcers are usually hopeless, with the Olympics being particularly dire.

I mean, I'm completely unqualified to weigh in on the quality of a figure skating performance in which no one falls face-first onto the ice, but it's not like as a once-every-four-years viewer I'm looking at it like, "my kid could do that"
