I dunno, shall we all just go and dig turnips in the blasted wastelands outside the big gated cities or something.

Weird how they put all their efforts into using technology to replace human creativity and art and then say creative arts degrees are useless.

Not sure I’ve ever been happier than that time I held a stepladder steady so Kenny “R2D2” Baker could point at an empty birdbox.

Jenrick should be sacked for his comments about Birmingham. Even five years ago he would have been. Just goes to show how emboldened racists have become.

"For the first time in a cheap edition" is some marketing.

My favourite Stephen King novel is that one about the dogs and cats and hamsters that die and get buried in a scary place and come back to life but there’s something kind of opposite about them and how they used to be, I think the book’s called Pet Symmetry.

From 15 years ago. I should probably use this.

Shitty weather? Stuck for something to do? Have a listen to some joyous music.

Here's Mick and me doing the closing 3 hours at our Chester party. It was one of the best we've done and will go down in ONO history, for a variety of reasons. 😆

Heads-up: @davidmbarnett.bsky.social will also be part of the BFS's Something Monstrous day tomorrow (online - the weather is shit, so you should totally come!), as well as joining @abeaumontbooks.bsky.social at Waterstones Covent Garden to chat supernatural stuff next Tuesday.

Every Friday, we meet a BFS member & peer deep into their soul (or, at least, a form they filled out). Here's a commercial fiction writer who recently turned to folk horror - and became award-nominated as a result. It's @davidmbarnett.bsky.social!

On a black background with flourishes of red dots and lines is the text: Meet the BFS members! David Barnett. David is pictured in the centre: he's a middle-aged white man with short greying hair and a trimmed beard. He wears a dark grey turtleneck and is looking into the camera at an angle.

Let’s be honest, it’s a stretch to say we live in a true democracy, isn’t it? Government & big business skip along merrily together towards policy decisions that affect the rest of us but over which we have zero control. Decisions are made about us without us all the time.
