Congratulations to all who fought for it and the present and future artists of all sorts in Ireland. That includes me 👌We’re just comin to the end of a 3 year pilot scheme. It’s been a roaring success. For every €1 paid out to the 2000 participants, the government got €1.46 back. Can’t argue with that. Other countries are already taking note."

I’m sharing this because I’d say a depressing number of friends I’ve made throughout my career have had to down comicking tools to pay the bills and now don’t feel like they’re part of that world any more, or worthy of inclusion.

But I don’t think you can sever those ties so easily?

I told him the survey aims to better understand comics creators and the barriers they face, even - especially! - if those barriers mean they are unable to make comics at all.

This is squandered, thwarted potential, and it needs to be recorded.

I was chatting with a friend last night who I know through comics but who now works full time and has no time or energy left to make them. I asked him if he’d filled in the survey (yes I know I’m unrelenting) and he said he wasn’t sure if he should, because he doesn’t currently make comics
