In the end, ignoring amazon is the way to true peace. But it's rubbish that publishers aren't more open about sales figures with authors!
louiestowell.bsky.social
So, I had a meeting once with an amazon specialist, while I was in publishing, and they said "unless you're in teh top 200, ignore it" and that seems fairly sensible. Lots of things affect rankings that aren't sales of your book (sales of other books obv but also clicks and other mysteries)

*deep sigh* Again, I have an English degree and have contributed rather extensively to the British economy, including writing a show that pumped £10 million into Wales. But the stupidity is the point here, of course.

Badenoch and Co see education only as a means to a massive income in some soul destroying career.

Devoid of imagination and the power of knowledge they view life entirely through the prism of the CV.

My advice always is to study what interests you and the rest will follow

“Hothead Paisan” remains perhaps the most iconic of all the underground queer comics from the ’90s. Beloved by fans for its mix of old-timey cartoon violence with the struggles of queer existence, it gives expression to lesbian rage, Jo Livingstone writes.

Diane DiMassa’s “homicidal lesbian terrorist” was a star of underground comics in the nineties, but her “rage therapy” has lost none of its edge.

Interesting, so he's not being strategically vague, he just doesn't have the inner life to draw on to make moral judgements?

Nobody seems to know what happened here, looks like he might have been pushed rather than jumped. And honestly, if that’s true, must be something significant. He has done a pretty good job with HC for 12 years, so it’s weird.

Huge news that Charlie Redmayne has resigned from being CEO of @harpercollins UK. Wowser, wonder what happened.

And although it is great to see a woman take over as temporary CEO, Kate Elton is one of the most insipid publishing execs I have ever encountered.
