I think there should be an imprint called Star Fucker Books that only signs celebrities and social media stars. I mostly think the purpose is for big 5 publishers to have the odd famous person at their events and for their corporate promos.

Further, I am bored of motherhood books written by privileged white women.

Lorraine Kelly’s daughter. That’s my comment on this. 👀

When I had my breakdown it was 6 months til my first phone appt with NHS counselling; I'd already resigned because work would not consider the reasonable accommodations I needed. Took 2 more years for a proper diagnosis #ADHD

So yeah, the problem is totally fixed by applying for jobs.

Can only speak for myself, but think I'm not unusual, by the time you see a GP about mental health issues, you are at crisis point - finding it hard to get out of bed, eat, speak to anyone, deal with finances etc - but sure, tell me about the jobs I can apply for at that moment.

It is so far from what we need, isn’t it. Wish you well and better days x

Exactly this. It’s a brutal world

Also true, another reason not to seek help

Also it may make your mental health worse if you think that by making a dr's appointment you may also have to see these people.

Prospective employers can get itchy feet if you divulge existing, controlled medical issues… so the chances of them taking on someone with ‘current’ MH issues? Hahaha, good luck with that one!

And don't get me started on the provision of care for people with mental health illnesses across the NHS. Get out of here. And I say that has a strident NHS supporter.

This is what it mostly consists of - here take these anti-depressants and they might help in about 2 to 4 weeks. Bye

People REALLY don't take mental health illness seriously, do they? One of the reasons I describe my breakdown as like having a car crash in my brain - everything was broken, you just can't see anything physically. So yes, it did take me over 5 years to get back to something near 'normal'.

THIS. The industry also doesn’t want to admit how it really feels about marginalised voices and books by marginalised voices. #kidlituk

I’m hoping you know I was ridiculing AI?

The reason the Right are so invested in the myth that the arts have no value isn’t because the arts don’t generate wealth (they do); it’s that studying the arts teaches people to imagine better ways of judging the value of an idea than by counting how much money it makes…

I'm planning to set up a food delivery business, but don't want to pay the people who make the food. If they won't give me free food, they'll kill my business.
samatlounge.bsky.social
Absolutely. And they wonder why they don’t want to work on minimum wage 🤪

Why bother, when AI can write everything for you? The future ☠️🫣

Badenoch and Co see education only as a means to a massive income in some soul destroying career.

Devoid of imagination and the power of knowledge they view life entirely through the prism of the CV.

My advice always is to study what interests you and the rest will follow

By the way if Charlie’s departure is because of their new distribution centre that doesn’t seem to distribute very well, I demand an ‘Eton Mess’ headline.

Almost nobody openly criticises the eminently criticisable publishing racket. Sam's account is a breath of fresh air – well worth a follow if you are in or around the biz.

Charlie Redmayne departing HarperCollins and Kate Elton becoming temporary CEO, is the seamless switch from Eton boy to head girl Kate (privileged white woman).

Oh publishing, never change. Of course you won’t.
