Israel digs itself into a deeper hole
naomiaklein.bsky.social
Israel has just arrested Greta Thunberg and many others.

Statement from the Global Sumud Flotilla:

“People of conscience have been abducted. The flotilla broke no laws. What is illegal is Israel’s genocide, Israel’s illegal blockade of Gaza, and Israel’s use of starvation as a weapon.”

Close to 65k watching the livefeed from the Global Sumud Flotilla off the coast of Gaza.

Israel seems to be intercepting right now.

All eyes needed.

2 ideas: 1. "ecospace"? Don't think I've always fully understood the idea but if ecospace is not just about "what is" but "what could be" in an ecosystem then surely that must involve the history as well?
2. Pioneer species and sucession.

Was fascinated by colour intensity of this years ago. Turns out the pigment has been used as a dye and they are investigating commercial production of colour from it. Has many other properties including possible use in electronics. All probably due to inherent elfin magic 😉

Why does the COP30 logo look like one for a petrol company?
Is that meant to be a red flame or a dying leaf? Probably both.

🎉BREAKING: The High Seas Treaty has reached 60 ratifications — enough to enter into force!

This landmark agreement creates a pathway to help protect the high seas — waters beyond any one country’s authority that cover nearly half our planet. https://oceana.ly/3VqpI2Y

2 conmen. Only in it for what they can gain for themselves. Ukraine would be best distancing itself from these charlatans.

Just 1 day left to speak up for nature! Across Europe, our forests are thinning, our rivers are drying, and our wildlife is vanishing. Now the European Commission wants to weaken the laws that protect them. Tell them to keep their #HandsOffNature. Speak up now: environmentalpillar.ie/hands-off-na...

Something that could be done in Irish uplands as well...
billsutherland.bsky.social
So what did our uplands look like? Was it upland wood pasture with scattered trees and flower rich meadows? Did farmers used to mix trees, grassland and hay meadows? Can we recreate this habitat e.g. in Yorkshire Dales? youtu.be/YiK0mKLUzTU?...

In Cavan last week on a great nature friendly farm. Lots of biodiversity. We discovered marsh fritillary caterpillars 🐛🦋. First time ever recorded on that site. 💚 Also painted ladies, red admirals and speckled woods.
