It’s now warm enough to leave my office window open which means I hear my neighbours. One of them is training a dog called Eric. I may never know what type of dog Eric is but he is not being a good boy.

I’ve never really understood national pride for things like sporting events when I contributed nothing other than possible indirect tax funding, but today I’m really feeling a sense of national shame.

jk rowling funded a case going before the supreme court that argues it should be legal to discriminate against and persecute trans ppl.

yet still we have to listen to ‘centrists’ claiming she isn’t bigoted she just has ‘a difference of opinion’.

no trans ppl have a voice in these proceedings.

@surf.social congrats on launching Bluesky support! I assume it doesn’t work with self-hosted servers yet?

It’s worth a reminder that all the end to end encryption in the world is kinda pointless if you let your phone upload everything to an unencrypted backup. Always surprised this doesn’t come up more as I’m fairly sure it’s the setup most people have.

Got all excited this morning about Foundry VTT. Actual LiveKit video: yes please! Fortunately tried the demo before dropping $50 on it. Makes my laptop fans spin rendering a static scene the same way old roll20 did and there's no way I'm going back to that.

In a Swiss ski hotel and the Euro deep house pop covers are absolutely on point. Who on earth needed a male vocal cover of Sabrina Carpenter’s Espresso? And yet, here it is.

‼️ The State Department has REMOVED TQIA+ on their page of recommendations for queer travelers. This page yesterday said "LGBTQIA+" and now just says "LGB".

The federal government is trying to erase trans people from existence.

I’m astounded by the number of posts I’m seeing using DeepSeek as as proof of their, “see, AI is all crap anyway” point. Doesn’t make all spanners pointless just because someone made a cheaper one.

1. Breaking: Donald Trump has issued an EO that lays the groundwork for a total military ban.

In it, he says that being trans goes against "a soldier's commitment to an honorable, truthful, and disciplined lifestyle."

Trump Military Ban Says Being Trans Conflicts With "Honorable, Truthful, Disciplined Lifestyle"
The ban leaves much of the details to defense secretary Hegseth for implementation.

A while back, the newspaper I pay for decided they’d no longer let me read articles without creating an account. I haven’t caved yet, so my consumption has changed to picking one article because I have to copy the link into a browser to read it. Maybe this a silver lining..?

Two hours later I work out that Pixelfed does it's own routing based on the host header, so accessing it via a tunnel just gives a confusing error. It was fine all along.

Having a go at setting up a Pixelfed instance and it’s going about as well as you might expect for something written in php.

For some time I thought find-my-friends just didn't work very well on my old Apple Watch, but now I have a new one and… nope, it just doesn't work very well.

Just curious: has anyone ever had a call with a business where you haven’t heard the words, “I’m sorry, the system is being a little slow today”?

Another thing I have learnt: AT Protocol makes heavy use of POST requests without bodies and breaks if it thinks they have a body, which means lots of things don't work if you have a proxy that does chunked transfer encoding or similar where those two things are the same.

It probably did not need to involve buying a new domain and learning about docker network namespaces, but I made it to Bluesky. Where are the snacks?
