If you're a grad student or an undergrad interested in research I need to you listen to me very carefully.

You cannot learn to write good research papers if you do not read good research papers.

Stop asking LLMs to summarize papers for you.

“For Brazilians, the really scary thing isn’t how close we came to having our democracy destroyed in 2023,” writes Vanessa Barbara, “but that it could happen again — and succeed.”

“Vamos sorrir. Sorriam.” ❤️ Fernanda Torres #Goldenglobes

Yeah, the use of “a gente” is very common in Brazil. Here in the northeast of Brazil we use much more “a gente” than “nós” in conversations, definitely.

Exactly! It confuses us too. We say “eu compraria” for sure

Here in Brazil the only form is “Vocês vão ao supermercado?” 😅 “Vos” only in churches indeed 😬

Portuguese is very tricky indeed 😅.
Among the many differences between Portuguese from Portugal and Brazil, here in Brasil we never use the pronoun “vós” in conversations (such as “vós fostes” in the preterit form of “ir”). We always use “vocês foram”.

Na passagem de 2023 para 2024, quando Bradesco Saúde anunciou 39,65% de reajuste no nosso seguro, eu entrei com um processo judicial. O juiz considerou que não havia urgência para me conceder uma liminar que suspendesse o aumento.

An advent calendar of some of my favourite TCS/Maths talks. Day #1: Avi Wigderson on Reading Alan Turing.

It is a gem of a talk, full of insights about Turing's work, writing style, and influences on mathematics and computer science. Pure joy!
