Rode the Finch West LRT today with so many others, way after this morning’s opening festivities. Smooth ride, little slow at times but it picks up the pace in a few spots along the route. I wish I had this when I was going to Humber College! And it connects to Line 1 at Finch West Station 🙌 #Toronto

A movie that takes place where you’re from
Still from the film ‘Last Night’, 1998 Canadian apocalyptic black comedy-drama film directed by Don McKellar. Sandra Oh’s character is walking down the middle of an empty downtown street, except for an abandoned TTC streetcar with its doors open on the left side of the scene, and an abandoned bicycle lying on the street on the right side, white smoke hanging in the air getting thicker in the distance. Sandra is carrying bags in both hands, walking towards camera in heels, red dress and a dark jacket. McKellar wrote the screenplay about how ordinary people would react to an imminent global catastrophic event. Set in Toronto, Ontario, the film was made and released when many were concerned about the Year 2000 problem. 22 years later, I would be walking down the centre of empty King Street remembering this scene and movie. We’re still in a pandemic but you’d never know it. Forever 2019.

I found myself across Ontario Place the other day for the first time in 2 years & was shocked bc I had forgotten it was all gone 😭 My mouth literally dropped & felt my gut drop. This used to be walking trails & thriving habitats to many species. It’s going to be all glass, concrete & parking garage

And more dirt and mound of dirt all the way to the right edge. There used to be trees and bushes and wooden silos and other funpark architecture where nothing but dirt is now. A blue sky and dramatic white clouds float over the desolate scene. Small trees line Lakeshore Blvd, silhouetted against the lake, blue sky and dramatic clouds, backlit by the setting sun. It looks desolate and wrong. Like, something wrong happened here.

Just one more reason to clean the air everywhere indoors, like we clean the water. Why wouldn’t we use the tools our leaders keep saying we have to live with Covid, flu etc? HEPA air filtration, Far UVC. It’s everyone’s right to have a safe work environment, to not be harmed by the air at work. 😷
