First off, there are no “checks” in SNAP.

Also, the 25 states that have not given notice are in no way going to be able to fund the program on their own (hence the headache from cost-sharing from OBBBA).

Finally, why are PR and Guam always left out of reports like this?

MINTON BEDDOES: Well, first of all, it's very nice to join you again. That's a hard one to answer because, you know, what is remarkable is that in the face of a lot of shocks - some positive, many negative - the economy is doing remarkably well. And the stock market is doing remarkably well. And I think the sort of simple way to explain that is that on the one hand, we have a number of policy shocks - and I would put the president's immigration policy right at the top and his tariff policy right at the top, and we can talk about both of those - but also, generally, the uncertainty that surrounds what President Trump does. You know, he is very pro-business on one hand, but on the other hand, it's very, very hard to plan and predict. But set against that, there is a frenzy, almost a euphoria in the United States right now around artificial intelligence. And that frenzy is driving investment, and it is really what is behind the stock market. So you have this sort of tale of two economies, if you will - the real economy right now in the here and now, I think, being hit by particularly the tariffs, and on the other hand, this optimism in the markets that comes around the expectations for AI. If you look at really the stocks that are doing extraordinarily well, it is the Big Tech companies, the Magnificent Seven, as they're often called - Meta, Tesla, Alphabet - formerly Google - Amazon, NVIDIA, Microsoft and Apple. It is the Big Tech companies that are driving this frenzy, and then other companies that investors think are going to benefit from it. If you took those out, the performance of the stock market is much more lackluster.

The following labels define ranges of food security: Food Security High food security (old label = Food security): no reported indications of food-access problems or limitations. Marginal food security (old label = Food security): one or two reported indications—typically of anxiety over food sufficiency or shortage of food in the house. Little or no indication of changes in diets or food intake. Food Insecurity Low food security (old label = Food insecurity without hunger): reports of reduced quality, variety, or desirability of diet. Little or no indication of reduced food intake. The formula is important because there is mandatory funding that comes through, but also extra 'bonus' foods the USDA can tap into if needed.
State Allocation Formula TEFAP's entitlement commodity and administrative funds are allocated to states based on a statutory formula that takes into account poverty and unemployment rates.113 Specifically, USDA calculates each state's share of the total national number of households with incomes below the federal poverty level and each state's share of the total national number of unemployed individuals. A state's share of households in poverty is then multiplied by 60% and its share of unemployed individuals is multiplied by 40% to calculate the state's share of TEFAP commodities and funds. For example, if a state has 4% of all households in poverty and 2% of all unemployed individuals, it would receive (4% x 60% = 2.4%) + (2% x 40% = 0.8%) = 3.2% of TEFAP funds.114 As noted previously, states may carry over any extra food or administrative funds for one fiscal year (e.g., from FY2024 to FY2025).

Usage of the term for those not familiar, "Uniparty is used as a term to suggest that ostensibly separate political parties actually function as a single party."
Supporters of the 2000 Green Party presidential bid of Ralph Nader used the term extensively, and Nader himself called the prevailing political structure a "corporate uniparty" in his 2002 book Crashing the Party.[3] Afterwards the term would largely be dormant, being sporadically used by Third Parties, until 2016 and 2017 it was adopted by conservative populist Steve Bannon in describing how, in his view, the Republican "establishment" was working with the Democrats to suppress Donald Trump's campaign seeking the Republican nomination in 2016.[3] The term saw resurgence in 2024 with claims by figures including Marjorie Taylor Greene and Robert F. The old and corrupt must be laid to waste before the just can triumph. Opposition identifies and isolates the enemy. Conflict of interest must be seen for what it is. Do not support palliative gestures; they confuse the people and delay the inevitable confrontation. Delay is not tolerated for it jeopardizes the well-being of the majority. Contradiction will be heightened, the reckoning will be hastened by the staging of seed disturbances. The apocalypse will blossom.
