I gave it 3 stars, but i can't remember why. I read that before i started keeping notes on books i read. I think it had a lot to do with the pacing? Dunno.

I rage-quit Katabasis on friday, was too tired to read yesterday, and I'm going to finish a book today. Plus i have an audiobook going in my car.

Did I read over 100 pages of this last night after my Katabasis rant?

Yes, yes I did.

I can't listen to fiction audiobooks. I hate the performance. In my head, i read very monotone and bland, so the inflection and such irritate me.

So i listen to nonfiction. It's not nearly as annoying and most are read just like you'd read an article. I esp enjoy autobiographies read by the author.

Oh also the "we are about to have a serious conversation but our lives are suddenly in danger omg hell so scary but we just barely got away with little effort" was very disappointing.

I think i might reread Dante if only for the brainbleech. This book is nothing like Piranesi. Go read that instead.

I've rarely ever read a story where the main character is so self-centered, so fatalistic, so attention-seeking, and so stupid all at the same time. If that was the point, then well done, but I'm not going to suffer through that cowpile.

Okay. I'm done now.

I wanted a smart magician solving riddles and battling through Hell and instead got whatever this is. i think i enjoyed about 50 pages. The rest are like Kuzco as a llama "this isn't my fault! Listen to my tales of woe. Isn't school awful? No one understands me." Why wasn't this from Peter's POV? 📚💙
