Snow and ice may narrow travel lanes, creating temporary one-lane streets during the morning commute. Yield to vehicles already passing through and wait for a clear lane before proceeding. Use caution, stay alert, and give crews space while traveling.

Heads up, DC: Melting snow can refreeze into “snowcrete.”

These hardened icy blocks can be slippery underfoot—use caution as our DC Snow Teams continue working to clear the snowcrete.

With sunshine today, the DC Snow Team continues snow operations across #DC, including hauling snow from areas where it can’t safely melt. This work helps keep streets passable, supports drainage, and reduces refreezing as colder temperatures return. Thanks for your patience.

Today's sunshine is a great opportunity to clear snow and ice.

🚘Cars: Clear off roof, windows, lights, & mirrors before driving.

🚶🏾‍♀️Sidewalks: Residents are responsible for clearing walkways in front of their homes & businesses.

Let's work together to travel safe, DC!

Clear your car before you drive. Ice falling off the roofs of cars can be dangerous for other vehicles, and snow left on vehicles reduces visibility for others. Clear your roof, windows, lights, and mirrors.

Slow down and allow extra time as snow operations continue.

If you must drive, use caution! Icy conditions and refreezing are concerns. Here are some tips:
- Slow down and increase following distance
- Watch for black ice, especially at night/morning
- Never drive under the influence
- Be aware of exhaust fumes if stopped
Stay safe

Before driving, take time to fully clear snow and ice from your car's roof, hood, windows, mirrors, lights, and plates. Flying snow reduces visibility and puts others at risk. Avoid non-essential travel and give crews space to work.

DC, stay off the roads tonight if you can. Icy roads and low visibility make travel risky. Crews are out clearing streets—give them space. Stay home, stay safe, and let the District Snow Team get the streets clear.
January 26, 2026 at 2:00 AM
DC, please stay out of the street. As it gets darker, icy roads and low visibility make travel more dangerous. Let's stay safe and rely on sidewalks!
January 26, 2026 at 12:00 AM
Here’s a look at DC Snow Team crews out clearing streets as the winter weather continues.

Please stay home if you can, give plows space, and allow crews to keep routes as safe as possible.

The DC Snow Team is moving along with snow and slush removal on streets, bike lanes, and trails as sleet and rain continue. Stay off the roads if travel isn’t necessary, give plows space, and watch for residual slushy spots.
January 25, 2026 at 10:19 PM
Sleet and freezing rain are making travel dangerous.

Stay off the roads, stay safe, and give plows room to operate!
January 25, 2026 at 6:57 PM
DC residents: As snow changes to sleet, conditions can become heavier and more hazardous. If it’s safe during a break in precipitation, clearing sidewalks early can help before refreezing. Place snow in no parking areas—not walkways or bike lanes.
