Heads up, DC: Melting snow can refreeze into “snowcrete.”

These hardened icy blocks can be slippery underfoot—use caution as our DC Snow Teams continue working to clear the snowcrete.

With sunshine today, the DC Snow Team continues snow operations across #DC, including hauling snow from areas where it can’t safely melt. This work helps keep streets passable, supports drainage, and reduces refreezing as colder temperatures return. Thanks for your patience.

Clear your car before you drive. Ice falling off the roofs of cars can be dangerous for other vehicles, and snow left on vehicles reduces visibility for others. Clear your roof, windows, lights, and mirrors.

Slow down and allow extra time as snow operations continue.

DC, if you must travel throughout the city today, be patient, use caution, and consider using Metrorail.

Expect roads to be icy and slushy—be sure to give our plows plenty of space on the roads.

Cold weather advisory from 7p this evening until 11a Tuesday. 🧊

Wind chills expected to fall to minus-5 or below. 🌬️

Actual temps will be near record lows with readings near zero in the cold spots to around 5. The 5 that is forecast at National Airport would beat a daily record of 6 from 1935.

Before driving, take time to fully clear snow and ice from your car's roof, hood, windows, mirrors, lights, and plates. Flying snow reduces visibility and puts others at risk. Avoid non-essential travel and give crews space to work.
