Earlier in the week was the third anniversary of my ordination. Which means this weekend represents a liturgical full-circle; in the Church's three-year liturgical cycle, this weekend's readings are the same as the first time I preached at Mass. So my homily this weekend is part new, part recycled.

I still maintain that if "America the Beautiful" is a liturgically appropriate song for Fourth of July weekend, our closing hymn for Labor Day weekend should be "Solidarity Forever"

President Trump says he want to enter heaven. As a Catholic priest, I take that seriously.
“I want to try and get to heaven, if possible,” President Trump told Fox News. Here’s Father James Martin on how any of us get there.

Remember, Francis said, "The Son of God came into this world as a homeless person. The Son of God knew what it was to start life without a roof over his head."
Compare the dystopian episode unfolding in D.C. today with a day in the same city in 2015, when Pope Francis had lunch with homeless people and reminded us, "The Son of God came into this world as a homeless person."
The homeless being targeted in DC are the very vision of Jesus in our midst

I mean I can't speak for anyone else but I'm ready
I am getting the impression that liberation theology and especially Gustav Gutierrez has moved from fringe to centre stage in the Vatican. If this is happening then are we ready for that? Are we ready for the Catholic Church being part of the movement for liberation and against oppression?

The tradition of Catholic social teaching is vital, amid the rise of Christian nationalism in the Trump administration.

For that reason, we're launching 'The Counterpoint' — a new podcast series on Catholic social teaching in our current moment:

The Counterweight: Reclaiming Catholic Social Teaching

This is mor or less exactly my response whenever anyone suggests we should have a cry room in the church.
We should have rooms for adults who feel fussy about children making noise at Mass, rather than rooms for the children. The adults can have a window to see what's happening, or a speaker to hear what's going on.
