As the fake national crisis in LA was fanned by the emerging police state last week, I entertained a childhood friend who, once we had a short break in the weather around Anchorage, accompanied me on a flight to the Knik river, where I maneuvered & camera-coached for this soon-to-be framed-print:

Last night at 21:00 (9:00pm) approaching Bethel, Alaska; the lower Kuskokwim River and the massive wetlands of the Yukon-Kuskowim Delta region of Alaska.

Yesterday passing 17,000 feet above the summit of North America’s highest point, Denali (no, Donald, it’s still Denali), shortly before commencing descent into Anchorage from Utqiagvik/Barrow. #denali #alaska #aerial #landscape
There is some post-processing to counteract the harsh lighting.

300 knots indicated airspeed, eastbound for Anchorage last night at 21:35, descending into the clouds with the sun behind. #glory #flight #alaska

Eastbound about mid-way to Anchorage around 01:45 this morning after delivering ~15T of cargo at Bethel, #Alaska, the #auroraborealis was especially active in the light of a nearly full moon. iPhone15, raw, 3-sec exposure computational photo mode & post-processing.

Monday, 3/10, passing the 20,320' #Denali summit at 32,000', an hour later crossing the #BrooksRange for Utqiagvik/Barrow with a load of crated refurbished rotor blades for the Arctic Borough's search & rescue helicopter, atop a shipment of heavy timbers, followed by the usual stuff of air cargo.

Through the dirty double-panes of a row-1 passenger window on an Alaska Airlines 737, #iPhone15raw #DNG mode: original file, B&W version, and color #post-processing in Lightroom. Above Ventura County, California nearing sunset, descending for LAX two days ago.

12/29/2024 mid-day #AlaskaRange pano, #Denali uber alles through the windshield climbing northbound for BRW. It shall never again be known as "Mt. McKinley" regardless of official grim-buffoonery. As with all of my photography posted here, it's best seen on a proper monitor at my website.

Mid-February afternoon #light&shadow upon the #BrooksRange northern slope, commencing the final :30 of flight from Anchorage to Utqiagvik/Barrow.
March 3, 2025 at 1:39 AM
Mid-February ~34,000' above the northern slope of the #BrooksRange, a display of late-winter's afternoon arctic #shadowplay; nearing the end of our 34,000' cruise segment, carrying ~15 tons of cargo from Anchorage to Utqiagvik/Barrow.

Mid-February, as winter's darkness relents to early evening sunsets; #Denali summit catching the sun's final rays of the day, as seen through the windshield at 37,000' southbound for Anchorage from Utqiagvik/Barrow.
March 3, 2025 at 1:23 AM
Last week approaching the #Denali summit as we top out at 34,000' about :20 after lifting off Anchorage International Airport, some 110 miles behind. The return of #sunlight is at maximum velocity now with the equinox less than 3 weeks away.
March 3, 2025 at 1:11 AM
A high-country terrain detail near the #Denali summit in late-winter afternoon lightplay last week; shortly after reaching cruise altitude of 34,000' off Anchorage for Utqiagvik/Barrow.
March 3, 2025 at 12:59 AM
Sliding past the #Denali summit, 14,000 feet below, shortly upon attaining cruise altitude en route from Anchorage to Utqiagvik/Barrow carrying 15 tons of cargo and nearly as much in fuel last week.
March 3, 2025 at 12:51 AM
In the shadow of #Denali– the #MuldrowGlacier wends and grinds its inexorable path upon the northern face of the #AlaskaRange, as seen last week through a cockpit side-window from 34,000 feet. The season of light quickens upon the northern land.
March 3, 2025 at 12:36 AM
The approaching vernal equinox in Alaska is coming upon the country; through 737's cockpit side-window, lightplay upon the Brooks Range, from 34,000 feet en route to Utqiagvik/Barrow, a week ago. More to come; this and several others now in my website's Recent Additions gallery.

Earlier today on my drive east along the north coast from where I stayed the night in the NW corner of Tasmania, Smithton, during a short diversion at Stanley, on the way SSE to just short of Hobart for the night, thence Sydney on a noon flight; returning to Gunland Monday.

And so, here’s my email letter to R-Alaska Sen. Dan Sullivan, he who should know better, on the SecDef hearings for the empty vessel of reactionary christofascist theocratic dysfunction, Pete Hegseth.
