I'm certain that the aircraft involved are N-numbered (US registration) airliners owned/operated by a US charter company and crewed by US FAA certificated pilots; therefore US law and aviation regulations fully apply to their operation anywhere. And so the excuse, as usual, is utter B.S.

As a professional pilot holding US FAA pilot certificates, I'm pretty sure that US Federal regulations & law apply to US registered aircraft & US certificated crew operating anywhere in the world. I hope the charter operator and crew are held accountable for ignoring the court order.
