Why debt justice?

Debt has been used for centuries as a tool of exploitation - leading to increased poverty and inequality in the global south.

Debt is used in the UK to punish the poor in a system that is rigged for the rich and wealthy.

This injustice CAN be stopped

Nope, got to disagree here. There absolutely is a fairer way, Bristol Council clearly just don't want to hear it.

Whichever way you look at it, relentlessly chasing people for money they don't have isn't a sensible choice.

Without Loss & Damage finance, Global South countries are being forced into debt to cover climate disaster costs - from floods to droughts to hurricanes

This is not #ClimateJustice

Rich countries must #PayUp and @fillthefund.bsky.social

$1.2 TRILLION for military budget, only $348M for Loss and Damage? This is the theft of climate justice. We fought for the FRLD. We won’t let it be an empty promise. Global North #PayUp and #FillTheFund now!

New research from Oxfam and Care shows how rich countries are profiting from the climate crisis

🌍 2/3 of climate finance to the Global South comes as loans
💸 For every $5 received, $7 is paid back – a 42% profit for creditors

Obviously it's always nice for our stats to be quoted, but let's be clear - this is not a solution to debt.

Someone on the standard rate of universal credit would take *11 years* of spending every single penny paying back debt, not including interest, to pay off this much debt.
I was crippled by £40K debt but paid it off in 17 months by sticking to 3 rules
IN 2024, the campaign group Debt Justice said its research had suggested a record of 10million people in the UK were heavily in debt. As well as dealing with the pressures of the cost of livin…

This won't stop as long as big oil keeps banking billions. We must #MakeThemPay for the damage they've wreaked and to guarantee a future for us all.
