The big, scary thing is the undermining of trust in U.S. debt. Beyond the reckless tariffs, the huge drop in income tax revenue will put in doubt America's ability to pay its obligations. Even the lowest risk savings will lose value. Economic life will grind to a halt.

It is misleading to say the laptop was authenticated. While it contained actual Hunter Biden emails, there wasn't an attempt to verify the integrity or disprove tampering of the data before it ended up in Giuliani's hands, as @emptywheel.bsky.social points out. www.emptywheel.net/2025/01/24/e...

Both printouts and screenshots of originals will preserve nearly-invisible spacings and subtle character substitutions that can be used to identify the recipient, downloader, or viewer of a document. That undermines the anonymity of the source.

No, since machine learning is not making a copy any more than a reader learning from a book is making a copy.

There needs to be new norms and regulations for establishing training sets, but copyright, which has benefited publishers far more than creators, is not the right tool for that.
