Remember when I said I needed to draw more newts? This marbled newt (Triturus marmoratus) is small, but now I have the itch. I definitely need to add more amphibians to my repertoire!

This drawing was made with watercolor and colored pencil.

(reposting due to a typo)

Happy #fossilfriday! Here’s an assortment of shark teeth (fossil and contemporary) from my collection, accompanied by a small plastic tiger shark. I pulled the bull shark tooth off the seafloor myself!

This drawing was made with watercolor and colored pencil. #sciart

Map progress! I’m currently digitally adding CO’s many beautiful rivers, streams, creeks, seeps, lakes, reservoirs, and other various and sundry bodies of water to this map of our topography. This is the first map I’ve ever made, and I’m genuinely loving the process!

I humbly present my topographical map of Colorado! This map was drawn by hand in graphite from a satellite image. It is not finished (it has a final purpose involving more components) but the topography itself is complete!

One of the purposes of this diagram is to serve as sample
work for a vertebrate anatomy course I’ll be teaching in a little over a month! The course is online, through the Lyme Art Association. I’d love to see you there! #sciart

Here we have a swallowtail butterfly (Papilio multicaudata) throughout multiple stages of its life - egg, caterpillar, chrysalis, and imago - perched on a branch of its host plant, the chokecherry tree (Prunus virginiana)!

the afterlife of you and me / ink on 9x12 paper / 2021

Happy #valentinesday! This is an old drawing (maybe I’ll redo it soon?) of The Lovers of Valdaro - two sets of 6,000-year-old remains found snuggled up in a Neolithic tomb near Mantua, Italy. That’s romance!
February 14, 2025 at 3:06 PM
hey, i know her! i think maybe i’ve already shared this illustration i made of the same species (Melanocetus johnsonii). finding good visual information for the piece was tricky, since these guys are spotted so rarely. i’m gratified to see that my drawing is accurate - this video is bonkers!
