🇵🇸 Recovering PDX record store guy. "I mostly collect singles" years old.
As an extremely (dial up) online mid 90s teen reading the Spin Guide To Alt Records over and over, Galaxie 500 were a band I could never find but sounded so fascinating on paper. Finally heard On Fire on the 97 reissue and was SO BUMMED OUT. Also a long time Pixies hater but Doolittle is a flex.

Being that Nirvana were a Tacoma band at this point and that I live in Tacoma, I'm going to vote for Fine Young Cannibals because Tacoma bands were trash in the 80s. Also trash in the 90s.

I voted 3rd Bass because of the truncation error on the snare on "Gas Face", the Don Newkirk cameo on "Gas Face", the Zev Love X feature on "Gas Face", the story about "Steppin To The AM" being originally for Lyor Cohen to strong arm Rakim, and bc Pete is a better rapper than either Reid.

I've always found that vocally disliking Husker Du was a really fun way to antagonize my hip friends who were born before 1980 and I'm adding "Workbook" to that. Jungle Brothers was miles beyond.

Objectively, few records in this can go head to head with "Disintegration" (which has already won 🤣) but "Pretty Hate Machine" comes very close. Neither album has a bad track, it's just... Well only one has Robert Smith.

I'm always so bummed out that Mark Kozelek turned out to be such a pile of shit bc "Old Ramon" came out in 2001 and was a brilliant record that now is just... hard to engage with at all

35ish years later, the song "Rhythm Nation" still sounds like it could make every remaining klan robe on earth spontaneously combust, if only we played it loud enough

My old coworker Astral Triage who still smokes cigarettes and wears identical plain black tshirts every day would be kept up at night at the prospect of having to make a choice in Monday's match up.

Also, instead of sampling "Think" they just remade all the important parts using Janet's voice and their own drums +10

As a person who has it clearly stated in my will that I'm to be cremated with a specific hand dubbed tape of "154", there is no question that "Rhythm Nation" is the god in this matchup. Janet, Jimmy and Terry made a masterpiece.

On threads it would have gotten 2 dudes responding that they love MJ Lenderman and are only 32
