A poetry review so spoilers are questionably.

I have a lot of books... which makes sense, I'm a writer. While I used this website for my writing portfolio of creative and copy work, I've decided to make a Substack for book reviews. I did start a book review on here before (hopefully that is lost to the internet) and I thought I'd bring it back to life now that I have the time.

It has got a five-star rating on Amazon. A local author has realised a life-long dream and has self-published his debut novel. Inspired by stories such as Lord of the Rings, The Lion, the Witch & the Wardrobe and even Harry Potter, John Bright has finally put pen to paper to write his fantasy novel, ‘The Riddle, The Stones and The Sorcerer’.

I sometimes get magazines, think cosmopolitan, vogue and the occasional Women’s Health etc. Mostly to make art collages but I sometimes take the time to read them first. They’re great samples to gain inspiration in my own article writing and how I might get into the business.  I was reading this one article in this month’s cosmo and there was a line that took me aback.

It's been a while since I've graduated from University and I'm worried my proofreading and editing skills are getting lazy. So, like a body builder I'm going to train these muscles of mine by doing a course in proofreading and editing. I found the Publishing Training Centre through LinkedIn and while the course wasn't free, I knew it was important to keep my skills up to date.

Brief: Write a fashion/lifestyle article interviewing a famous celebrity in the Dungeons and Dragons world of Faerûn. Target Audience (in the world of Faerûn) : ● Primary: Fans of Rina, including Bards and those interested in her fashion. ● Secondary: Music, fashion and celebrity lovers looking for someone new to be fans of or at least interested in. ● Demographics: This is depends on races because some (like the elves) can be hundreds if not thousands of years old, but think roughly 17- 35 years old in our reality.

The Brief: Create posters to advertise Sushi for International Sushi Day (which when this is published as already passed, oops.) Inspired by the creative community One Minute Briefs, I did some copy spec on one of their small challenges: Sushi. Their premise is simple and as I've been in a writing slump (happens to the best of us) I need to stretch my writing muscles in small ways before a injure myself.

Here are the top Tripadvisor rated pubs with outdoor seating so you can take in the rays with a nice pint in hand. This list has been reviewed so pubs with a very small outdoor space were cut. Attention all Britons! The sun is out and well you know what our weather is like, so let’s enjoy it while it lasts, especially here in Somerset.

'Found Poetry' is a type of poetry created by taking words, phrases, and sometimes whole passages from other sources and reframing them by making changes in spacing and lines, or by adding or deleting text, thus imparting new meaning. Blackout Poetry is an example of found poetry that I've spoken about before. I believe anything can be art, and over the years I've started picking up scraps of scribbles that people leave behind.

It seems as if our attention spans are getting shorter and shorter every year. The irony of this piece that I do not have the patience to write in the first place. I’ll soon get annoyed and start watching reels on my phone. This is not do with the fact that I’m a Gen-Z adult and that my attention next to zero is this very busy and very wild world.

I had never heard of blackout poetry before, until I went to a workshop my Uni society was hosting. The Creative Chairman got a load of books from the charity shop, black markers and spread them out onto tables. She then said, "Pick up a book and ruin it!" Ruin... a book. The scandal! But we did a few and it was super fun.

The Challenge: The number of users for the library services is at an all time low. With the rise in low literacy rates amongst young adults and children, it’s important to spread awareness of the library’s valuable resources that could encourage new members to read and use other digital resources.

In a Coffee One, along a very mundane high street there worked a hag. She wasn’t like your typical hag or wise woman (for one thing she was working in a café). Quick imagine a hag for a second. What do you see? Well, this hag looked like any other old lady: wrinkled skin, a slight hobbled walk, had the affinity of grabbing youngsters' cheeks, and give them a hard boiled sweet.

In a world drowning in hate, fear and oil, the truth is more important than ever. Lies and biases are being spread with so much speed that we can hardly keep up. These false hoods are dangerous. Just look at the American election, and the whole ‘they’re eating the pets’ in Ohio lie spread by convicted felon Donald Trump, and JD Vance on their campaign trail.

There have been a few ups and downs this year already and we're only thirteen days in. Both in my personal life and in the world (where it seems to be a least something going wrong everyday). A way I've coped with these low times was to paint. It's what I did during lockdown (nearly five years ago! Jesus), through break-ups, mental breakdowns, through the good times, as a graduation gift for myself etc and it's something I've taken up quite recently.
