Geopolitics. Proportional Representation. Housing. Urbanism. Land Value Taxes solve everything. Fight polarization. "Left" and "Right" are a mirage used to control you. Vancouverite. Father of two.
I’ve been all over rural America just as I have Canada and other continents. You would be surprised the degree to which those populations have similar education and beliefs (and superstitions/conspiracies). But what separates those countries is the electoral system and how it channels those beliefs.

The first step is understanding why the system creates the results that it does, most populations in the world are far less educated than Americans. Pretending that Americans are uniquely stupid and thus caused the election of Donald Trump is missing the point to a dangerous degree.

We can either sit back and jerk ourselves off for our moral and intellectual superiority, or realize the two party FPTP system is designed for this outcome. Until its dismantled, you'll all get many more opportunities to pontificate while your electoral system continues to exact more victims.
February 1, 2026 at 11:41 PM
This is one reason why the two party system needs to be dismantled. Even democrat elites are beholden to the same corrupt dealings that republican elites have ensnared themselves and both run cover for each other. After all, a two party system will inevitably pass power from one to the other.

Not weird at all, this is simply how a two party FPTP system functions. Tribal identities entwined with a media environment that profits off the sportification of politics, finished off by a largely disproportional electoral system.
February 1, 2026 at 4:56 AM
How? Not baffling at all. This is what you get with a two party, FPTP democratic system. How is he allowed to continue? That two party FPTP system gave him complete partisan control of all of the branches of government. Party and especially Trump above all other loyalties.

The problem is precisely that believing the women is not enough; the whole array of powerful pedophiles are protected by the two party duopoly and the state mechanism that only serves to protect their entrenched power over the rest of you. The two party system must be abolished.

For a second I thought you meant it was ripping higher 😂
Let’s gooo

Both the US and China have subsidized their domestic auto manufacturers to the tune of billions. Question is what the strategy has been: China focused solely on EVs while the US has waffled around preserving internal combustion engines. Either way, consumers benefit.

On that we made a damned good case, but mettle will still be tested, and deep beliefs are being revealed: which nations truly believe they have the impetus and capability to build a new order and which of those see themselves in terminal decline and whose only role is to perform palliative care (UK)
January 30, 2026 at 4:05 AM
I think the real question is if we’re going to lead, how many will follow. Many leaders are being tested, and some of them (looking at you Starmer) are failing.
January 30, 2026 at 3:50 AM
No miracle required. We have upstart populist parties but it’s only a matter of time before more of them realize the best path to power in FPTP is to continue aggressively infiltrating the Conservative Party coalition.
January 29, 2026 at 1:05 AM
An entrenched two party FPTP system will do that to you.
January 27, 2026 at 8:38 PM
Because the American electoral system gave him complete and total control of all branches of government. If you do not reform the system, this will happen all over again in the future.
January 26, 2026 at 3:11 AM
Again, rules for thee, not for me. It’s all just tribal conflict. Whatever benefits my tribe most and hampers the enemy tribe most.
January 25, 2026 at 10:30 PM
It’s always been wild to me that JJ seems to put all of the onus on Carney and Canadians to reconcile with Trump to rebuild the relationship that he so desperately needs for his pan-American dream.
January 25, 2026 at 10:26 AM
It turns out it was always a tribal shibboleth, it was to protect their tribe against your tribes government, nothing for your tribe to use against them. The two party state must be abolished.
January 25, 2026 at 3:04 AM
It’s always been about blue tribe versus red tribe and this just makes it more clear. Red tribe members are fine with blue tribe members dying as long as Red Tribe doesn’t suffer. Principles are just a shibboleth that signify your tribe, nothing more or less. Dismember the two party system, now!
January 25, 2026 at 1:56 AM
Other than the Epstein point, because the Us is a two party system, the Democrats will always be reasonably assured that they will take power after (and the elites controlling them along with). As a result, they have some incentive not to internally damage the mechanisms they know they will inherit.
January 25, 2026 at 12:13 AM
That’s the wrong framing, as if the United States isn’t guilty of doing the same to countless other nations (including the aforementioned). The right framing is that the US electoral system two party state is a critical flaw that allows the system to be gamed inside and out.
January 24, 2026 at 7:45 AM
Carney exposed the crumbling US empire, Americans are just upset that other nations are no longer obeying them without question.
January 23, 2026 at 6:24 PM
Something that has to change is that other nations have to openly acknowledge and negotiate as if the US is totally schizophrenic: not only is the US liable to 180 on its foreign policy every term, NATO allies must involve themselves in domestic American affairs to ensure policy is maintained.
