After teaching and meetings I made time for the Food Waste Workshop today in the beautiful @umassamherst.bsky.social chapel. My colleague Arzum Akkas was a co-organizer. Great to have @isenbergumass.bsky.social PhD alumna @denizbesik.bsky.social back on campus! She is a discussant on a paper.

Thanks @denizbesik.bsky.social for presenting our paper "Multicommodity Fresh Produce Trade Networks with Quality Deterioration Under Congestion and Transportation Capacities" at CEMA conf in Houston. It is open access in the @springernature.com Journal of Global Optimization: tinyurl.com/5d5t93zh

Bananas ranked as the top fresh produce commodity by global production. What we eat is the result of a complex and fragile geopolitical operation. Our paper captures part of that story by looking at congestion, quality deterioration, and capacity. Check it out, it's open access!
And, if you like #bananas as much as we do, our open access #orms paper with @denizbesik.bsky.social on #banana #trade & #supplychains plus #freshproduce #quality under congestion is open access in @springernature.com Journal of Global Optimization! link.springer.com/article/10.1...

Excited that the galleys have been received & they're in great shape. Looking forward to seeing this paper with @denizbesik.bsky.social, as the lead author, published soon online in the @springernature.com Journal of Global Optimization! #orms #supplychains #agriculturaltrade #freshproduce #bananas

Had so much fun working on this paper! It brings together congestion, fresh produce quality (thanks to food science!), and transportation caps in trade networks. Building on Prof. Nagurney’s groundbreaking SPE work, we offer some macro-level insights. The theory might just make you go… bananas!
In the midst of all the challenging news in #academia, my paper with @denizbesik.bsky.social on #agriculturaltrade of fresh produce under #congestion & #transportation capacities was accepted in the @springernature.com Journal of Global Optimization! The case study is on #bananas & the Panama Canal.
