Pre-Protest Safety Preparation What to Pack? Several days of medications, Water bottle with spout top for hydration and to wash eyes in case you experience tear/pepper gas. Energy snacks Cash - preferably no credit cards Menstrual pads: Avoid tampons because if arrested, you likely won’t have a chance to change. Basic first aid kit Emergency contacts A change of clothes in a plastic bag Phone charger Shatter resistant eye-wear What to wear: Protective, close toed shoes Clothing that covers all your skin to protect from sun and chemicals Bandana to cover your mouth and nose soaked in water, lemon juice or vinegar. It will aid in breathing if exposed to chemicals. A hat. Avoid wearing items that are easily grabbed such as jewelry, and ponytails. Don’t go alone. Bring a buddy. Cyber safety tips for activists. Stay safe online! Install signal: free - replace your mobile sms, voice and video communications. This will secure your comms against state and corporate surveillance using encryption. You will need to get your friends and loved ones to also instal signal. Use a secure VPN connection: secures your browsing data, encrypts your Internet traffic, masks your IP address, masks online activity & location. Set up Proton Mail: free- this will secure your email against state and corporate surveillance using encryption. Install Brave Browser: free - replace your standard chrome with a chrome version with built in ad and tracker blockers. Works on mobile and desktop. Turn off location tracking: on your cell phone while protesting. Lock your phones: turn on auto-screen lock features using passwords and 2FA.
