And to be fair to him, Star Trek was infamous as a hugely difficult show to write for, especially if you have little experience in science fiction; it was rewritten by Steve Carabatsos, Trek's story editor at the time, so maybe we can blame him.😏

Actually I got that fact wrong! Mankiewicz wrote for a helluva lot of TV series, but Perry Mason wasn't one of them. (I have NO idea where I got that!)

Funnily enough, it was written by Don Mankiewicz, of the famous Hollywood family, and he'd written several PERRY MASONs already.

Even funnier is that they thought a courtroom show would save on the budget; turned out one of the most expensive episodes of the season.
