A very fun thing about IU playing in the Rose Bowl is seeing all the tourists in Hoosier gear at the Academy Museum and around the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Charlie Chaplin making the Gold Rush in 1925 and his granddaughter being the star of Avatar in 2025 is a nice reflection of the Babylon montage.

"Did you see what Mark Cuban posted? Oh did you see the clapb—"

You shake yourself awake in the cold North Atlantic water. You are not online. It is July of 1858. You are a baleen whale, and you have changed your mind. The future most not come to pass. The telegraph cable must break.

“Rain smacked Los Angeles. It splattered on the palm trees, sizzled on the neon, gurgled down the dirty boulevard. The town was sick. They hadn’t seen sunlight in almost a day. But I had the cure. A fifth of magic and a sack full of cold, hard joy. ‘Ho,’ I said once. It was enough.”

The algorithm steered me to Duke Ellington doing the Nutcracker Suite and it is *glorious*. And the album cover credits are so cool:

Ellington * Strayhorn * Tchaikovsky

Good stuff, check it out.

The 60 Minutes shenanigans are beyond the pale; I have accordingly canceled my Paramount+ subscription.

Caught a matinee of Paranormal Activity at the Ahmamson, so wandered down here for an early post-show dinner.

I am very much enjoying the live Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree Lighting show on NBC; I continue to be impressed by how much the broadcasters have upped their game, this is airing live, broadcast in 4K Dolby Vision / Dolby Atmos. The live sound mix for all the music is great. /1

It is cold and raining hard here in L.A., so; bourbon beef and farro stew. Decadent and so, so worth it. #blueskysupperclub

Happy Negroni Week!

Is this a fake holiday created by the Campari Group to goose sales of their amaro? Yes. Is it a delightful way to observe the autumn equinox with the perfect drink to lament the end of summer even while celebrating the onset of autumn? Also yes. #blueskysupperclub

A dinner experiment which I will pronounce a success. Lamb ragu from scratch (recipe of my own invention), with spicy Italian sausage. Garlic bread & steamed broccoli, with a California Merlot. Nom. #blueskysupperclub

Out at a tiki bar and Billy Joel’s “Vienna” is playing. I spot a young woman on a date singing along with gusto: she knows every word. She can’t be more than 25. I feel pretty good about the future.

7:30pm in Los Angeles and it’s 90 degrees; too hot to cook anything. So dinner is club sandwiches (I did fry some bacon) and store-bought potato salad & pasta salad. #blueskysupperclub

Unusually good car-spotting at my Studio City car wash this morning, both brand new: an Aston Martin DB12 Volante, sky blue, and a Lamborghini Revuelto in a very Batmobile-esque matte black.

I am not entirely sure how this happened, but I am married to a runner. How married to a runner am I? So much so that I downloaded today the Strava app to help train for the next run that I appear to be signed up for.

Dinner tonight was an attempt to recreate a memory from childhood. If you’ve been around long enough you may remember a Kraft savory chicken noodle dinner. It came in a box, the same size as a box of mac ‘n’ cheese, and had flat noodles and a chicken-flavored sauce. #blueskysupperclub /1
