TPUSA believers look for opportunities to exploit. Faculty have to be proactive and not fall into these simplistic bs arguments with people who at their core are anti-intellectual.

As repugnant as the views expressed in the essay are, the prof gave an assignment and a rubric that allowed for that opinion piece to be submitted with some expectation of marks awarded. On purely pedagogical grounds, I think the prof also failed (though I would not give them zero marks).

I don't know about the US, but here in Singapore people are encouraged by their mobile provider to "upgrade" their phone every two years when thy recontract. While some of the "old" phones make their way to 2nd and 3rd hand markets, it's exceptionally bad in terms of sustainability.
