The long versions from 1982 are particularly good.

How about Tom Verlaine on Marquis Moon?

There is absolutely zero chance that a man who took $50,000 in cash in a paper bag from an FBI agent on camera would have been appointed to any position by any other president.

Listen to the response to this and look how easy it is to say it.

We have armed secret police kidnapping people off the street based on the color of their skin.

When we win: we will haul them before a Senate committee. The masks will come off. There will be consequences.

the hype-to-reality ratio is wildly off, and there is likely going to be a big correction soon, if not a complete bubble burst.

IMHO, LLMs will be an economic negative for years.

They'll do a worse job than humans,

but will still replace humans because they're cheaper for employers,

but really they're costlier, it's just that lots of costs get externalized to society by our horrible energy/tax policies.

Lose-lose-lose.
The Real AI Risk is ‘Meh’ Technology That Takes Jobs and Annoys Us All
While AI doomsday scenarios dwell on the risks posed by superintelligent robot overlords, one Nobel-Prize winning economist fears a more mundane possibility.

GenAI truly was the worst technology to come along at this moment.

An energy and water guzzler when we most urgently need to take climate action.

A disinformation machine as our journalism fails.

A bias machine as fascism takes root.

A job killer in a cost of living crisis.

The "cognitive decline and brain damage from repeat COVID infections" and "easy to use robot that makes slop and melts your critical thinking skills" is a hell of a combo in a post-fact media ecosystem

A classic case of irresponsible both-sidesism from the NYT. The story is that Trump and MAGA propagandists are lying about Portland to incite a conflict, not that there are different views of the matter.

after millions of views and shares of my Portland Frog art. (thank you all🙏🏾) I got requests to highlight priests, and chickens, and Chicagoans, and T-Rexes, and more… all of us who refuse to bend the knee. so this is for US.

If highly selective universities, meaning those that admit <=10% of applicants, selected only on HS GPA, 63% of incoming students would be women. Wouldn't change much if considered test scores.

Trump's "compact" would hurt young men, and esp. young white men.

I doubt Linda "A1" McMahon knows this.

It’s extraordinary that Biden’s main weaknesses were inflation and cognitive decline and now America has inflation and cognitive decline as well as tariffs, authoritarianism, blatant corruption, etc

My goodness. The "weave" is a personality issue to Tapper? How can he not see the cognitive decline of DT, especially in light of what he wrote about...?!?

This is an extraordinary admission. “We can create the violence that justifies our presence.”
detenber.bsky.social
True, except I think the ultimate objectives may be beyond DT's processing capabilities at this point. It's his enablers and Project 2025 advocates pushing for this.

You must defer to the president’s determination that there is an armed rebellion in Chicago, argues the govt’s lawyer.

That’s the Trump admin’s stance on everything. When the law doesn’t allow it, lie about the facts until it’s something that would be legal, then insist others live inside the lie.

Perry: DOJ's definition of rebellion would mean that
"literally all nonviolent protest” could be considered evidence of rebellion. Is that your argument?
Hamilton: The president has determined there is a danger of a rebellion, and you must defer to that finding

Indeed. As an educator and media studies person, it has been so disheartening to see journalistic standards at legacy media not keep up with the times. I have all but abandoned them and am turning more and more to independent outlets like ProPublica and @marisakabas.bsky.social
