I was a kid at the time (elementary), but even we called 3.5" floppy disks because that's what our teacher and parents and older siblings called them.
The 5.5" and above? Also called floppy disks by everyone else, but we kids called them "REALLY Floppy Disks"

Trump has effectively tried to end run this old problem with a massive surge in ICE agents, but I don't think they're going to get remotely near their goal.
