Sick outfits to get job rejections to

If I were in a situation like this, on break and having a smoke, and I happened upon a gentleman who seemed to be holding a burger in his fingers the way a fella holds a cigarette, I would also be weirded out Ultimately, though, it is none of my fucking business, so I would shut up and smoke my cigarette and then go back to work. But this guy asks, IS THAT A BURGER?, prompting the other guy to answer, LITTLE SOMETHIN’ TO TAKE THE EDGE OFF. At that point, appropriately flummoxed and cowed, I would turn away and go back about my business. I definitely would not give my companion a disbelieving, haughty look down my nose and emit a derisive puff of cigarette smoke Of course, this would then prompt my companion to ruefully realize: HEH… THIS POOR BASTARD THINKS YOU CAN’T SMOKE A BURGER.

HESTER ANGUISH, a Scholomancer, currently stuck serving as acting Sheriff for the Treeliner town of Bailiehollow. A prominent NPC for a new home game with my fiance, running a playtest for a game system I’ve been working on for the last few years.
A bust of HESTER ANGUISH, portraying her from the shoulders-up. Her most prominent feature is her metal mask, which covers her head from the back of her skull all the way down to the underside of her chin. The features of the mask are simplistic and indistinct, with a rough approximation of the brow, cheekbones, and jawline. The apertures for Hester’s eyes and mouth are blocky and rectangular. Overall, with her chin lowered and face half-turned to the viewer, it gives her a very ominous appearance. Although there are a few scratches, the helmet has obviously been well taken care of. A hinge and seam near the temple implies that a clasp at the back keeps the helmet in place. Her eyes, visible through the eyeholes in the mask, are a bright, fiery amber. Her straw-blonde hair, which is not nearly as well-kept as the helmet, is pulled into a messy ponytail. The skin visible beneath the mask – mostly, her right ear and neck – is quite pale; her ear and the front of her throat show that at some point in the past she was badly burned. The scars are old, but extensive. She is wearing her Fog Crawler, a large Scholomancer’s overcoat made by enchanting an antique longcoat which originally came from the World-That-Was. The dark olive coat looks like military surplus and here is buttoned all the way up, showing refurbished gold buttons, red trim, and a red interior collar. A full-body image of Hester. In this image, she wears a salamander-orange pinafore over a cream-colored long-sleeve shirt. The shirt has two large, bright green buttons on a soft, light-colored leather collar, and smaller green buttons at the sleeve. She wears dark leather work gloves which have become slightly sun-bleached on top with age and wear. Her belt matches her gloves; it is quite sturdy-looking, has multiple large pouches, an empty glass vial, and has a design that looks custom-made for the uses of a Scholomancer such as Hester. Her knee-high riding boots are also well-used, though the top of them are not visible beneath the hem of her pinafore. Her posture is relaxed, though a hand hovers by her belt, as if she is ready to grab something off of it. From this angle, her mask gives her a slightly less menacing expression, though it’s hard to tell if the expression under the mask is any different. Hester’s two weapons of choice – it is unusual for a Scholomancer to carry one firearm, let alone two, but they are carefully maintained. The gun on top is a sawn-off break-action shotgun with a single barrel; it is plated in a pale metal, like nickel, and has obviously seen a lot of use – the metal is covered in wear marks and scratches. The handle and fore grip, modified with anchors for a shoulder strap, are made from a wood similar to walnut, with a distinct grain and a warmish-brown tone. The handle looks to be made from a burl, and has much more distinctive and complex patterning. It also has a device attached to the left side which is modeled on the Alofs Repeating Shotgun System (basically, an external bolt-on tube magazine which automatically reloads the shotgun whenever the gun is opened to reload. It’s super cool, look it up!). The lever that breaks open the shotgun has a stylized ‘G’ on it. The second gun is Hester’s trusty Fizroy Raider, modeled after a World War I-era Webley top-break revolver. It’s a newer gun with much less wear on it. It is plated in a dark metal, and the grip is made of Hemacite – a special Bakelite-esque plastic substance made using Monster Blood, and so having a distinctive deep red, cloudy coloration. There is a lanyard ring affixed to the bottom of the handle. A closer view of the details of Hester’s upper body. Because she is facing the other way from the bust, we can see that the scarring on her throat wraps all the way around the front of her neck, but on this side it goes up to her jaw – her left ear is un-burned, and she wears a small earring.

ANOTHER EARTH, File 002 – THE JOKER Three busts of The Joker from an alternate DC universe fan project. His clothing is inspired by the Cesar Romero iteration, with a vibrant violet jacket and a deep green shirt and tie which feature a subtle paisley print. His features are exaggerated in a way which seems reminiscent of the DCAU Joker, with some Jack Nicholson thrown in for good measure, but his shoulders are broad and thuggish. He has a golden tooth, a green tongue, and his eyes look sickly and pink. The tone of his skin is also off-white with a slight green tint, implying that his blood may be green. Text on the image reads: CHEMICAL BATH: • Bleached his skin • Toxified his blood • Skin and muscle became more elastic • Slowed physical aging The “Joker Venom” toxin uses his own blood – and requires an undiluted sample for the antidote. He has a smug smile and is dressed as a lounge lizard, leaning on a gold-tipped cane and swirling a beverage in a martini glass that is noxious green, bubbling, and smoking. Naturally, it has an olive in it. He wears a light purple tuxedo jacket, dark purple-grey slacks and gloves, black dress shoes with spats, and a pale green tuxedo shirt with purple bow tie. Text on the image reads: Though he has an outfit he favors, he will dress to ‘fit the occasion’ – depends heavily on the person or place he is menacing. Another picture of the Joker, in a third variant outfit. He is laughing maniacally with his head thrown back, holding a golf club which has been bent as if by hitting something (or someone). He bounces a small ball in his other hand which is about the size of a golf ball, patterned like a smiley face. Noxious green fume comes out of the gaps between the teeth. He is wearing a much more modern outfit, similar to Steve Jobs – an almost-black purple turtleneck sweater and matching pants, with a teal vest that has a faint pink floral print. His shoes are hot magenta alligator-skin wingtips, and his socks are bright green. Text on the image reads: DON’T BELIEVE THE HYPE. • Despite appearances and behaviors to the contrary, he isn’t as chaotic as his reputation would have you believe. • Incredibly clever. Brilliant chemist. But, at this point, most of his tactical know-how is experiential. He struggles against anyone that isn’t Batman (or adjacent). This last image is another picture of The Joker in his tuxedo outfit, with a smarmy facial expression, tapping his temple similar to the Eddie Murphy head tap meme.

This new Killer Moth sees himself as a mirrored facet to Batman – and he sees Batman as his ‘ideal nemesis.’ He and Bruce are equals at baseline, but with very different specialties and levels of experience. Cameron has no illusions that he could stand up to Batman in hand-to-hand combat; he’s no slouch, but there would have to be a substantial handicap to get to ‘fair fight’, let alone ‘decisive victory.’ You have to be stupid to try and become a better battler than Batman. Cameron’s expertise is in a different arena. But above all else, he is an unmatched escapist – that is, he is a master of masters in the noble art of running away. This is what he means when he says he is a ‘consummate coward’. When the going gets tough, Cameron typically gets going. This is a Killer Moth who has never been captured, and ideally never will be. He hinges his reputation on being uncatchable, untrappable, unaccountable. Yes, maybe he has to leave his big score behind… but that is vastly preferable to a dislocated shoulder and a felony charge, don’t you agree? Cameron has degrees in business, economics, psychology, and several fields of design. He is pragmatic, systematic, and educated. He is generally averse to violence, prefers to avoid placing innocents in danger, and comes across as erudite and sometimes melodramatic. Heck, he’ll even work with Batman when other villains cross the line. But at the end of the day, he chose to be a criminal, and he chose to let the darkness in. Just ask Drury Walker. Oh, wait. A Manila folder lies open on a table. FILE 003 – KILLER MOTH. Page 5. The new Killer Moth kit and costume is not designed to be directly intimidating, but rather to evoke intimidating figures in the wider cultural consciousness. Even the decision to make his ‘cocoon gun 2.0’ bright orange was carefully-chosen. It is all aposematic: it culminates in an image that doesn’t induce blind terror, but allows him to leverage a commanding presence to curry fear or obedience. Beneath the text, the page has several Polaroids showing off pieces of Killer Moth’s kit – a smoke grenade shaped like a moth larvae, an explosive dart shaped vaguely like a moth, and a ‘Motharang’ – the folded tool looks like a chrysalis, but it deploys to a six-pronged dagger-like throwing weapon in the shape of a moth with wings outstretched. Lastly, it shows his grappling tool, a screw-on gyrojet-based grapnel system that is mounted on the barrel of his gun. A picture taken of the gun in action shows a speech bubble reading ‘Another time, Batman!’ And the gun firing the grapnel, which spins away in a burst of smoke.

A Manila folder lies open on a table. FILE 003 – KILLER MOTH. Page 1. Did you know that the original Killer Moth, Cameron Van Cleer, was considered a definitive, capable foil for Batman? It’s true. Touting himself as an ‘anti-Batman’, Van Cleer used his skills as a master tactician and escape artist to serve as a for-hire diversion for the grasping talons of justice. He was very good at it, too. It may have been early in the careers of the Dynamic Duo, but a successful streak of escaping Batman and Robin is impressive in any era. And then, quite abruptly, he became a bumbling, incompetent fool. Drury Walker claimed when apprehended that he had appropriated Cameron Van Cleer’s identity, when CleerCorp’s vaunted and secretive business mogul went missing years prior. He had been using Van Cleer’s corporate account to finance his supervillainy ever since. In the wake of Walker’s ties to CleerCorp going public, the company experienced a violent value crash, and was acquired by Wayne Enterprises. Of course people in the underworld got to talking. People thought that maybe he had a stroke, or chalked the sudden ineptitude up to a head injury. Some people even said that maybe Drury had stolen the helmet from the real Killer Moth. Imagine that. Drury Walker was well-known in Gotham’s criminal community – a well-known idiot – but nobody noticed when he disappeared. Well, Batman did, but that’s a given. But when a new Killer Moth appeared on the scene, it became very obvious very quickly that this man was not Drury Walker. Because the new Killer Moth is very, very competent. A Manila folder lies open on a table. FILE 003 – KILLER MOTH. Page 2. Meet Cameron Van Cleer II: heir to the CleerCorp business fortune, and to the lime-green moth helmet. He has some very particular ideas about how the cape community should function. Using CleerCorp as a clearing house for villain gadgetry, he seeks to restore Killer Moth’s rep in Gotham. Stop me if you’ve heard this one: after watching the murder of his father as a young boy, Cameron Van Cleer II was left orphaned, angry, and desperate for vengeance. Cam traveled the world, honing himself into the perfect tool for his desired goal. Except, Cam has tasted a dish which Bruce Wayne is forbidden from eating: personal vengeance for the death of his father. His father had a chauffeur and personal assistant, a man by the name of Drury Walker. An avaricious, short-sighted little man that was covetous of Van Cleer’s power. One night, after establishing a passable alibi, Drury Walker shot Van Cleer’s in the back and reported that his employer had not come home from a business meeting that day. Little Cam, aged 8, was sent away to boarding school – but he never revealed what he had seen that night. He wanted to deal with Walker himself. And 18 years later, it seems like he finally has. Remember that Batman was early into his career when the original Killer Moth was active? And that when Drury Walker was unmasked, Wayne Enterprises swooped in and bought out CleerCorp? Well, Bruce made a rookie mistake on the business end: he had the wheels set in motion to purchase CleerCorp well before Walker’s identity went public. This oversight was what led Cameron to Batman’s true identity. A Manila folder lies open on a table. FILE 003 – KILLER MOTH. Page 3. Even with this insider information that only Cameron had and deductive talents accrued from his time abroad, the revelation that Bruce Wayne and the Batman were one and the same was not one that the new Killer Moth came by easily. He has not tried very hard to hide his own secret identity from Batman – mutually assured destruction, he hopes, will remain an effective deterrent until the day that Batman finally catches him. But even then, he has no desire to blow up Bruce Wayne’s spot. On the contrary – Cameron believes that Batman being able to operate uninhibited is in everybody’s best interests. In fact, Cameron fully believes that there is a balance that must be kept within the so-called ‘cape community’; consider it a cousin to performance art. Supervillainy/heroism can be ‘done right’ or ‘done wrong’, it can be done at varying levels of quality, it exposes societal weak points and responds to cultural trends. In Van Cleer’s eyes, villains keep heroes from descending into totalitarianism, acting as a buffer that distracts the likes of Batman and Superman from over-extending their authority. And heroes (should) weed out true dangers to society, apply cultural pressure when a system becomes too dominant, and model positive behavior for more mundane authorities. His work as Killer Moth is part of a market that must be maintained and kept healthy. If any one part of the market lists towards monopoly, the entire system falls apart. … And yes, alright, stealing is fun.

Killer Moth wound up on my docket because an ersatz version of him showed up in the tabletop campaign that Wayne is DMing for me, a superhero setting where we play with the genre conventions & riff on or fuse our favorite characters.

So, I thought, ‘what if I gave Killer Moth big cunty boots’?
Killer Moth sweeps his cape around himself menacingly. The background has swirling smoke. He says, ‘Well done, heroes! You’ve FOUND me…’ Killer Moth dramatically throws open his cape, bellowing, ‘BUT CAN YOU CATCH ME!?’ Behind him is a starburst of color, and he is illuminated dramatically from front and below. Killer Moth does a gay little run that pisses Batman off. He thinks, ‘Oh FUCK he’s SO FAST!!’ A pair of batarangs whip past him.

Another design for DC: ANOTHER EARTH, a little fan-design project I’m working on. This time, against all odds, it’s Killer Moth! Check out the thread below for more art and a writeup at the end!
A redesign of DC comics character Killer Moth, positioned waist-up. Typically considered to be a joke character with a goofy disposition, this redesign portrays him as a more menacing figure; he is backlit by a neon ‘KILLER MOTH’ sign, which causes the image’s lighting to be very dramatic. He is posed with a modified Mateba revolver held aloft, and has a couple of pouches and a spare revolver cylinder at his belt. A full-body version of the previous image, showing the redesign of Killer Moth with less dramatic lighting. His emblem, a rosy maple moth with a knife for an abdomen, is in the top left corner; the neon sign from the previous image is in the top right. Text beneath the sign reads ‘MASTER ESCAPE ARTIST. It was ultimately kind of an uneventful day, but I’m glad I got as much done as I did. Things are bleak in the household right now, & they have been, but we keep powering forward. Still find time to go to the candy store in the rain, enjoy the weather & the mountain. Hope you’ve had a nice weekend!

Pretty much any kind of sleep aid gives me insane dreams, when I finally manage to get to sleep. Sometimes a melatonin supplement doesn’t actually make me fall asleep in a timely fashion — but it does still give me bizarre, sprawling, narrative nocturnal visions.

I am also wearing a golden watch and rings, and a pair of very dark black circular sunglasses. The shirt features two legendary Jewish beasts ripping apart a Nazi flag, while Yiddish text overhead reads ‘We Will Outlive Them’. Same as previous but with a slightly different posture that shows off the rings a little more.
