Perhaps people should not be expected to do that, but neurotypical people successfully do it all the time. That's why the questions are written like that, and why I posited that quibbling/misinterpreting is a more useful indicator than the answers people actually give to such questions.

It's a misinterpretation of the phenomenon the question writer is trying to capture, or at least it was when my client encountered it--they didn't think of how to universalize it. You might be more in the "quibbling" category.

They got up during conversations constantly, though.

I think it's been said before, but the most reliable sign of neurodivergence is quibbling with/misinterpreting the questions used to diagnose it

Once had a client who marked "no" to "do you often get up in the middle of meetings" because their workplace didn't have meetings.

Karkat: Mostly doesn't read it except when it's put in front of him, because he'll take it too seriously.
Kanaya: Polite disinterest except when Rose recommends something that'll pique her interest (e.g. torrid romance, dense fantasy).

Jane: Publicly talks with pride about academic works, privately compulsively reads works about her.
Roxy: Responds with the same amused encouragement used for Callie.
Jake: Loves the movies.
Dirk: Collects and archives it all, to better study Earth C's societal evolution.

John: Read a couple pages forwarded to him by Dave, did not continue.
Rose: Deeply fascinated, writes lurid fanfic about her friends under a pseudonym.
Dave: Enjoys trawling poorly-reviewed and unfinished amateur fanfic.
Jade: Amused at first, then unnerved by people's expectations.

I appreciate the subtle understatement of "She'd lied."

Also interesting that the Vice Principal is stating she's never had friends, though she'd mentioned that her friends called her Lora earlier in the chapter. Feels like a meaningful contradiction.
