i'm always fascinated by elaborate kayfabe systems of power that completely break down after the guy who comes up with them die. the roman empire being divided by a pair of augusti and a pair of caesares, the tetrarchs, who were sort of supposed to be seen as the same person

If you’re in a creative field and you don’t lift up the work of your peers, you can’t expect people to care about your stuff
Do you have any extremely niche, but serious, ethical stances?

I know absolutely nothing about Arcane other than there's a character in it named Cait and like once a month I see a post seemingly accusing me of being a war criminal or something and get very confused for a second

My retirement plan? I dunno, I guess im just gonna leave lots of cryptic journal entries around town for a future protagonist to piece together what day to day life was like before the fall.
Not to mention that some of those chunks will in fact be composed of/influenced by actual bad actors seeking to undermine the group’s goal by shifting focus. Purity tests in theory weed these out along with the more well-intentioned distractions.
I think the natural intersectionality of political aims means that every single-issue movement naturally starts to lose focus as chunks of the movement decide that different secondary aims are relevant or crucial for the primary aim. Which then results in arguments for/tests of purity.

Yeah, I think that's lost on a LOT of people under the age of, like, 30-ish. Doc Brown's time machine was a DeLorean because DeLoreans were stupid garbage. It was a lemon he probably got for $500. Using it was just another thing made him look insane. 80s audiences would have understood that.
satire that people misunderstood: they picked the delorean for back to the future as a joke because it was a failed vision of the future
It’s so perfectly fine-tuned to his audience, who would largely claim that Peterson’s philosophy was for everyone but also feel like any inclusion of a clearly non-white student in the ad would be pandering
Love how evil this “Peterson University” ad I’ve been seeing is. It’s got Peterson spouting pseudo-profundities, of course, but it’s also promising to be “ideology-free” while talking up Jesus, and it never lets you get a close look at the students so you can’t confidently claim they’re all white

It's a bigger issue in the Hades games in my opinion, because you're expected to do so many runs to get the epilogues, and if you finish a run early enough that means that the rest of the game is spent tweaking things to keep the game interesting
I asked Grok to describe me once based on my Twitter account, and it said I had a sassy, irreverent tone and also that I was way into sports

If “ask a basic question and get an accurate response” is not the LLM use case then I’d rather, you know, look things up myself
i've asked an llm one question, about something i know about, and it made up a bunch of incorrect bullshit that i knew to be false. what am i supposed to do with that
There are basically only two positions in the debate about AI.
1. I’ve barely invested any time in learning how to use it effectively. AI sucks.
2. I’ve invested in learning how to use this tool. Holy cow, it’s transformational.

Position #1 has lower barriers to entry.

I generally don’t argue with people online if I clock that they rely on attention as a business model

there are two types of people in this world: those who have deeply imagined fantasies of being held safely in goku’s tender muscled arms and those who refuse to grant themselves emotional peace

If I had explain American history in one sentence, I could do worse than "John Brown was hung for treason, but Robert E. Lee was not."
John Brown’s raid on Harpers Ferry began on this day in 1859.

Quick reminder to all who use crowdfunding that Kickstarter explicitly forbids claiming you're going to donate a portion of funds collected to charity. It's enough to get your whole project taken down.

Just sayin'.
