I have relatively great health insurance. One of my kids needed a surgery this year. 2k doesn’t even cover the co-pay.

At the same time I was just getting into computational chemistry which was the major theme of that work. So it meshed really well.

Been a fan of Egan since. This one looks like it’s going to include climate fiction (cli-fi) as well. Hence the endorsement by KSR, I’m assuming.
