@emmettoconnell seems like they’ve entered a death spiral. They always seemed like a mixed bag but for sure produced some great work. I hope I’m wrong about my prognosis

In the press release where Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell lambasted his opponent Katie Wilson for dropping out of college, he also suggests she will "quit and walk away" when "things get tough in our city." You know things are tough when the mayor is attacking his opponent for something she did at 21.

The one big donation to Wilson's PAC so far is $75,000 from PROTEC17, the union that represents city employees. As Harrell likes to mention on the campaign trail as an example of his management experience, most city employees ultimately answer to him, and they're backing his opponent.

One thing people should know is that Choe works for Turning Point USA, Charlie Kirk's group, and was at the WH on behalf of that group

Jonathan Choe to Trump: "Another group right now that is behind antifa and working with antifa very closely based on the research that we have right now that we're gonna give to you and your team are the Democratic Socialists of America."

Brandi Kruse, who was once a local FOX reporter, was at the Trump Fan Club meeting, made a cutesy remark about how attractive she, Brandi, is, and Trump drooled something back.

Then she trashed the actual reporters in the room.

Trump, 79, Makes Creepy Remark to Fan Girl Reporter
The exchange capped off a bizarre roundtable in which Trump invited guests to air their grievances about Antifa and the mainstream media.

Not a close follower of California politics, but was just reminded that Katie Porter is running for governor there and seems to be the frontrunner. Seems like a major upgrade from Newsom in the substance of politics, but she's also had some great zingers that have rivaled Newsom's recent ones

@Viss It's not so much the financial cost, but the time for setting up and maintaining. Perhaps it's not as bad as I fear, but I have other hobbies and activities. Not ruling it out, but not a top priority and not sure it will be.

@Viss For similar reasons, I've developed a bias against any product that wants me to talk to it. Similarly, I've had to remind myself that there are many situations where using your voice as an input method is really helpful, even tho it's often been abused to violate privacy.

@Viss Not sure I'll ever get around to doing any home automation, but I'm really glad to learn there are some great open-source and non-cloud based solutions. I'm so jaded from the privacy invading big commercial options, I'm still reflexively repulsed when I learn of any home automation product […]

Back in 2023, this was intended more as tongue-in-cheek than prescient. 😬

Microsoft's Clippy, with a slightly bent frame and evil-robot-red-eyes, looks at the viewer, speaking in three dialogue boxes:

"It looks like you're writing an article about the ethics of AI in the newsroom."

"I've fixed that for you and posted it online."

"And arranged your going-away party."

Progressives and urbanists aren't always on the same side in SF, but we now have a shared interest in standing up to Daniel Lurie, who's defunding affordable housing and banning RVs at the same time as he's eroding car-free spaces and blocking bike infrastructure.
