Happy Flytrap Tuesday! Today, we have @katelynburns.com on how she saw her own coming out journey on Heated Rivalry:
Remember when TikTok was full of videos talking about how Helen Keller was a fraud? Today's BitchxFlytrap reprint delves into how this conspiracy theory follows the ableist playbook, by @juliametraux.bsky.social :
Helen Keller Conspiracy Theories Are Awash With Ableism
We don't need better social media moderation: We need to dismantle stereotypes about disabled people.

hey have you read about gay desire in sports and coming out of the closet today? WELL HERE'S A TREAT FOR YOU: www.theflytrapmedia.com/icy-hot-heat...

Also the OG sourcing of that video was pretty fucking hard to find; I'm citing it in an upcoming @theflytrapmedia.com piece and it was a real bitch confirming its origin and making sure it made sense to share at literally any time. Cites and documentation, every time, please!
For example the video yesterday of "ICE IS GASSING A DAY CARE RIGHT NOW!!" is the daycare right up the street from my house. I about shit my pants and raced out the door until I saw it was actually from Saturday. I already dealt with that daycare gassing, thank you. Please don't lie to me for likes
Definite uptick in Bluesky content aggregators taking legit clips regarding Minnesota from a few days or weeks ago and posting them without any sort of timestamp context, which gives the impression of them happening today, which then gets clicks. Be vigilant with what and how you share.

Busy content day from me:

For my newsletter, I wrote about why the SCOTUS birthright citizenship case and ICE's terrorism has kept me up at night for weeks.

www.burnsnotice.com/ending-birth...
Ending Birthright Citizenship Would Let ICE End Democracy
A radical conservative case currently before SCOTUS portends a terrifying political police state ready-made to deport political enemies I haven't slept well in weeks, I'm sure I'm not alone in this. ...

A @theflytrapmedia.com subscriber asked if we have an RSS feed for paid members. In the spirit of transparent budgeting, it's $$, so I need to do some research to determine whether it's something members would actively use.

So, paid members: How many of you would use an RSS feed?

"Black intimacies"

So special
In honor of all the well-deserved Oscar nominations, we are dropping the paywall on @freeblackgirl.bsky.social's piece on Ryan Coogler's Sinners, and how the real star of the film is the threading of Black intimacies:
'Sinners' Celebrates the Decadent Intimacy of the Black South
Ryan Coogler's latest film threads Black intimacies through time and space, all in one spiritually stirring night at Club Juke.

our marketplace health insurance plan was going to go up by a lot, so last month we looked at the marketplace options and checked which networks our doctors are on, and discovered that we could get adequate coverage for our current needs for a considerably _lower_ premium instead.

When I think about stories that fundamentally represent the essence of what Bitch Media embodied, I nearly immediately think about @soleilho.com's canonical piece, Craving the Other. It is an honor to republish that groundbreaking essay, which holds up like fine wine, on @theflytrapmedia.com.
Craving the Other

"The positioning of Western aesthetics as superior to all the rest is an expression of the idea that no culture has value unless it has been 'improved' by the West’s Midas touch."

Happy Bitch Reprint Friday! This week, an incredible feature from @soleilho.com on food and cultural appropriation.
