the last few years of building a life with my housemate/close friend/found sibling have been so great, it’s very deep care work and generally a lot of fun! it hasn’t excluded dating etc from my life, but romantic love isn’t the exclusive foundation i want to build stability, home, etc on

Just to be 100% transparent, as of right now, we will be essentially breaking even on the show after these hires.

We split 20% of our profit with @theflytrapmedia.com in return for promotional and occasional financial assistance!

This thread has led to the hiring of both a longform and shortform video editor and I couldn't be more excited!

This is why I appreciate @theflytrapmedia.com. Critical info is free, individual articles are $2, and full access is a paid sub. Needs to be the standard so writers can get paid for their labor, but nobody is locked out of the most pressing needs due to finances. I wish them success with this model!

Plus, you can read single articles for $2. Including this one.

Excellent piece. Read it for just 2$. “Under capitalism, studio execs are like vampires cowering from sunlight. Without built-in consumer interest, a cast of pre-established characters, or a trackable history of revenue, studios are treating original storytelling like financial black holes.”

This is a good model. I also wouldn't mind having some kind of aggregation service that lumped a lot of my news into one giant subscription, and I'd be fine paying a lot for it, because I do read a lot of news, and it's sort of the cost of doing business for writing a modern history podcast.

More places need to have non-subsctiption options. I cannot justify the cost of a subscription but I can do one-time payments for single things! Let me pay you one time to read that article I am interested in!

honestly, this is a vibe.
Can we re-invent cable TV for news paywalls? I pay for a few buy I'll admit that I'm constantly annoyed when I hit a paywall and I don't want to subscribe to everything.

However, i would LOVE a single, more expensive, paywall that brought me a bulk package of subscriptions.

I can't subscribe monthly to a gazillion people, but I want to spread the support.

I'm maxed out.
