I am Black American. My people were enslaved, segregated, and degraded for hundreds of years. There was a time when it was considered politically untenable to abolish slavery and legally dismantle Jim Crow. It got done. So, yes, a free Palestine is a political possibility. It is inevitable.

I have been clear about Palestinian liberation for a long time. I wrote this in Harper’s Bazaar in 2017: “The occupation of Palestine harms Palestinian women—period. If Zionism is harmful to some women, then it cannot, at any point, be considered a feminist commitment.” Play with somebody else.
If Your Beliefs Are Oppressive, You Are Not a Feminist
“Everything a woman does is not inherently feminist because she deems it so."

Hey, white Jewish folks, don’t message me when I post about the right for Palestinians to be free, unless you are also interested in visioning and organizing that future into reality. Other than that … get away from me with this, Apollo.

I am so proud to call @nicolefroio.bsky.social a comrade, friend, and colleague; her reporting and cultural criticism on the harms of colonialism and how they're deeply woven into Western society is incredible. Go read this on the suppression of pro-Palestine speech in music @theflytrapmedia.com!
Censorship of Pro-Palestine Speech in the Music Industry Shows the Power of Demands for Decolonization
The liberation of Palestine is a threat to how we live today—that’s precisely why we should keep calling for it.

NEW! from @nicolefroio.bsky.social: The reason governments, universities, and other public institutions across the world want to quash pro-Palestine speech—including art and music—is because they understand the danger it poses to life as we know it. Which is all the more reason to say it louder.

For my newsletter, I wrote about how wantonly illegal and unconstitutional ICE is, how it must come to a stop now, how it's up to all of us to stop it, and how we will need to develop a way so the federal government can never do this to us again.

On Friday, we brought back Spooky Flytrap Fridays, and @sesmith.lol dug into the recent growth in queer and trans horror that explicitly explores the experience of living in a marginalized body--and what that has to do with millenials' inability to buy homes.

Happy Spooky Flytrap Friday!! You know what's spooky? The housing market! @sesmith.lol writes about how they are haunted by buying somewhere to live and how that millenial trend has spawned a new housing-related horror genre in literature: the-flytrap.ghost.io/housing-haun...

There are 4 major patterns within media coverage of GLP-1s in the US, including:
🚫 fat people being made invisible by not being interviewed by the news media
🚫 fatness being treated as a monolith

The fun thing about moving off S*bst*ck is that due to the increased deliverability of Beehiiv, my transition to a new platform has been met with a rash of unsubscribes & canceled paid subs.

If you wanna support an independent trans journalist by subscribing, I’d appreciate it!

I have ✨some news✨! Today is my first day co-leading the writing for liberation program at Empowerment Avenue, a nonprofit that helps incarcerated people publish their work.

I believe storytelling advances justice. And I am honored to do this work on behalf of justice-impacted journalists. Cheers!

It's Flytrap Tuesday! co-founder @sesmith.lol writes about gun violence, the continued insistence that mass shootings are about mental illness, and how that supports eugenics approaches to neurodivergent and mentally ill people:

Twenty-five years ago today, the FDA approved mifepristone for abortions.

Now, it's more under threat than ever. I took a look at its history and the current efforts to restrict access to the abortion pills for @motherjones.com:
On its 25th birthday, mifepristone is more under attack than ever
The FDA's approval of the revolutionary drug in 2000 helped change abortion access nationwide.
