Don't forget that you can help six families & a displacement camp with one link. The needs—for literal survival—are very high, but we meet this with every boldness and hope in our hearts. The despair can't be ours.

Anything helps. 666/3500 by Saturday afternoon. chuffed.org/project/hope...
A square white graphic. On the left is a stylized ink illustration of a kestrel falcon in black on white, without outline just the black marks on its wings and face, drawn from behind. His wings are partly open and his head is turned to the right. In his beak is an anemone poppy in red ink with a green stem. On the right is the title "Keep hope alive: a gaza giving circle" in ink-effect font. The text says "We are a team of volunteers in the US and UK helping our friends on the ground keep their families and neighbors alive with food, water, & shelter. We distribute your contributions equally every week for sustainable support." In the bottom right corner in green text is the link https://tinyurl.com/HopeGivingCircle.

When the moon is so large and beautiful, I am incapable of saying much more than "I really like tha moon."

I was considering that since I have a second piercing in each ear, I COULD get two pairs and be symmetrical, but that seemed like it was probably over the top.

The point of these raids is not "arresting criminals" and pretending it is gives them validity and implies that there is a number of suspected criminals they could have arrested that would make this worthwhile. The point is demonstrating power and impunity and terrorizing communities.

Wow, they did all that and got *two* suspected gang members? Suspected? Wow. And two of them? Wow.

Plus a guy with a previous charge of marihuana possession? Wow.

Wow, that is impressive. Wow, when are we throwing these heroes a parade? Wow.

DHS says an operation last week in which agents raided a Chicago apartment building, rappelled in from helicopters, broke down doors and detained numerous residents, resulted in the arrest of two suspected gang members.

This community garden in the South End is astonishing.
A garden practically exploding with dahlias

It seems like today was a good day to be mostly disconnected from the news and the Internet, and thinking about ways to be better connected to and accountable to my communities 🐏

When we hear about a lone scientist who made groundbreaking discoveries on their own, it’s usually erasing the truth that science is a team sport, and field research builds on the local knowledge and expertise of the people that live there (8/10)

The kid sitting next to me at Yom Kippur services this morning had a small magic kit with him and spent most of the services practicing coin tricks. I was chatting about golems with friends elsewhere. I think this is the universe telling me I'm due for a reread of Kavalier and Clay.

"The memo demands that schools ban the use of race or sex in hiring and admissions, freeze tuition for five years, cap international undergrad enrollment at 15%, require that applicants take the SAT or a similar test, and quell grade inflation."

Lol now why do you think they want the SAT required?

this article shows how critical local partnerships are for ICE to hit their numbers, which is why you should keep the pressure on your local city governments to refuse cooperation with them

ICE had made only 85 arrests in Washington from Jan. 20 through the end of July. But from early August until mid-September, ICE made around 1,200 arrests, according to officials with knowledge of the data.

We detail how that happened:

There is lots to critique about the way primatology has developed, and things right now are very challenging as conservation and ecology become tougher to fund. But I know I'm not the only person set off on an extremely interesting path by Dr. Goodall. I really, truly thank her for everything.
