We screened it at Yale this week, followed by a fantastic (and sobering) Q&A. Howard French, Jhumpa Lahiri, and Raoul Peck—it’s been a remarkable two weeks here!

It should not be lost on anyone that Minnesota Rep Melissa Hortman, who was shot to death in her home last night by an assassin, was a gun safety advocate who worked tirelessly to protect her constituents from gun violence.

The first P. Everett novel I read was American Desert, and I want everyone to read this truly bonkers and wonderful novel that opens with a decapitated man sitting up at his own funeral. And then mayhem!

For all you newbies to Bluesky, remember to repost more than you’re used to (even your own posts sometimes), as there’s not really an algorithm here. Also you can make custom feeds of your friends, or on specific topics.

Also repost funny, quirky things, not just political outrage or despair!

David Gergen was right up there with Julia Childs for me as a Cambridge famous person I saw with odd frequency when I lived there in the 1990s. I have always admired him.

I spent a lot of grad school time at Spy Pond, research assisting for a professor who liked me to take it on the road. Fond memories of that calm place.
