Diannely Antigua The Moon Is on Wellbutrin After Joshua Jennifer Espinoza Why else would she lift her shirt every night to show the world her one milky breast? My sister says Wellbutrin sparked her slut era. I say, I don't need Wellbutrin for that. The moon used to be on Zoloft, before trying Prozac, before adding Klonopin to her lunar chemistry. The moon is on Propranolol. She's an anxious bitch, left to borrow light from the brightest orb around. What she wouldn't do to be the sun, allowed to come out during the day when the humans are awake and buying things, and she —just a sliver of existence, the distance of thirty Earths away from touch. Who could be this cruel to leave her wanting? The father was probably an asshole, the mother some aloof star. She's been used by too many singers, painters, and scientists, too many witches and hipsters who absorb her essence from bowls of water left outside overnight. I've used the moon in this poem, metaphor, hunk of rock. I'm sorry little moon, my moonly moon. You know, the moon can be both super and blue. Tonight, let's take our moon-shaped pills together. Let me carry the weight of you.

DIARY ENTRY #5: SELF-PORTRAIT AS REVELATIONS It was the summer of loss spanning the exact distance my disease could reach—the degrees of longitude and latitude, lonely numbers like decorations for a forgotten graduation party in a church basement. My disease reached a longitudinal pain and I blame the gods of my childhood, Jesus and the TV, and the basement parties where I became a forgotten church, when the boys came for pleasure and I asked for mercy. Jesus just watched TV—sometimes gods can be children. I had no forgiveness left to play with, alone with my symptoms of surviving the boys, their pleas for merciful come. I told myself it was love, when I was a particle suspended like a plaything, alone and unforgivable. The symptoms would be permanent, a number registered to the beast. I tell my unlovable particles the story of how Little Red Riding Hood went insane after the grandmother died. Permanence is beastly, all the preparation to live, all the terrible beauty. What does a teenage girl know of insanity? It is riding the same red death, that muddied horse, soaked to a flood. Maybe I was terrible and beautiful things still happened. Maybe I was decorated in loneliness, a pretty death horse muddied by the flood. Maybe I became the flood, of the spanning summer that took me, lost me. Diannely Antigua.
