Went to a special screening of The Black Cat (1934) last night.
The professor who introduced it made comparisons between Karloff's portrayal of Poelzig, & Veidt's Cesare in The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (1920).
Karloff is often wearing a robe or jacket, but it's definitely there in his mannerisms.

It's the perfect mix of function and form, a working powerhouse for the people of the city and a great free place to visit as a tourist.
