Regarding lists of free textures and alphas, there's a lot of free texture packs (alphas, masks and more) to be found on Itch, such as screamingbrainstudios.itch.io/noise-textur...

Look for the texture tag in the Game Assets category.

For tutorials on something specific, watching a video and following along tends to work best.

But for learning new software, just messing around with the software and googling for answers when needed or reading official documentation is my prefered approach.
