'The [FCDO permanent secretary] responded in March 2025 and explained that the potential for current improvements had been exhausted and further improvements were more difficult to achieve.'

Here's what it's actually about: people serving a community with decency and dignity to improve it for the next generation hand in hand with earlier ones. And I'm going to reiterate the church's appeal for donations to support its pipe organ project.

Turns out the answer to “is it really plausible” is yes, it is - see change to the column and a note from the Times explaining its correction. But the whole question of plausibility about “tiny details” is clearly facile in the face of the documentary evidence published.

We have already published this collage image which is a partial excerpt of the roll - it shows 9 Patels and 8 Smiths but the full roll we have acquired a copy of shows 13 and 12. This claim was also made by more than one pupil.

On a purely factual point, Trevor Phillips’s column in the Times misrepresents our reporting in casting doubts on claims that there were more boys called Patel than Smith at Dulwich in 1980 (we did not report 1976 as the year it occurred). 1980 roll shows 13 Patels and 12 Smiths.

Brilliant singing this morning from the junior choir at St John the Divine Kennington, here photographed before doing “a silly one” aka six seven.

SJDK is currently raising funds towards a major installation of a proper pipe organ. If you can give anything: www.justgiving.com/campaign/sjd...

further to the quoted section below from one former pupil: The Guardian has acquired a copy of the Dulwich College roll in 1980. It shows (this collage is just an excerpt) how there were 13 pupils that year with the surname Patel, and 12 with the surname Smith.

Peter Ettedgui has responded to the prime minister's comment: “I hugely appreciate the prime minister’s supportive words, as I am sure will the many others who suffered racist abuse from Farage at school."

And he adds this:

Stefan Benarroch, two years below Farage at school, has told the Guardian that Ettedgui "was such a gentle soul and Farage – Farage made his life a fucking nightmare." He has also alleged Farage would hang outside where a Jewish service was held to identify and taunt other Jewish boys.
