hilariously on (2) and (3), i was part of the foreign workforce for a US company. there weren't even any local execs who demanded to be treated nicely, and 99% of my colleagues were in the US!

I have worked at three companies in a row with a "return to office" hybrid work policy and not a single one has been able to give a non-bullshit (read: anything other than "it fosters collaboration") reason why they're doing it

so basically working less is a virtue in programming, and obviously that's the promise of AI, but it doesn't actually work because 99% of tech work is maintaining things you didn't write and it becomes way harder if you have to maintain something Nobody wrote and Nobody ever read before shipping it

you're just ignoring the core argument to focus on semantics. the point is that doom doesn't lead you to explore and fight by leading you on with mutually reinforcing cycles of incentives, it leads you there by having cool and fun levels.
