Old PC finally reassembled in the new "case". Fully open air and designed by me. Amazingly quiet. Case from openbenchtable.com, aluminum rails from 8020.net, and hardware from mcmaster carr.

So that solves mounting the motherboard but what about the PSU? I found out very quickly that my old ATX PSU would not work. Since initially desiging the desk I have added these MDF panels the rear side to hide the cabling. There is limited space between the desk and the panels.

I puzzled over to hang the open bench table (OBT) because I wanted it to be secure but also easy to remove and service. I settled on extended some extruded aluminum back and down from the vertical pieces attached to the OBT. These should hook and rest on the two 2 horizontal bars of the desk.

The PC case is a Thermaltake Core P5 which I picked because it is one of the few cases available with a VESA mount. So I used a TV wall mount and bolted the horizontal piece to the top rail on the desk, the vertical pieces are bolted to the case, and then you just hang the case.

Sure! It's part of my desk that I designed and built a few years ago. I wanted something that was modular, easy to manage cables, and of course looks cool 😎

It is built entirely from 80/20 extruded aluminum and has some nice features like a built in UPS and wheels for cable access.
