Ok thanks for sharing. I am still having trouble groking your exact scenario but I think it's enough for me to speak to.
With Nix, when building software, dependencies are tightly controlled for reproducibility reasons.
For running software, it matters less so.
With Nix, when building software, dependencies are tightly controlled for reproducibility reasons.

Hmmm it's hard to understand without an example. But Nix and NixOS heavily rely on using symlinks--specifically because it puts artifacts in an immutable store and looks to them at the FHS level.
