With Nix, when building software, dependencies are tightly controlled for reproducibility reasons.

For running software, it matters less so.

Hmmm it's hard to understand without an example. But Nix and NixOS heavily rely on using symlinks--specifically because it puts artifacts in an immutable store and looks to them at the FHS level.

Oh wait is the GitHub repo the example your talking about?
