Bolsonaro may die in prison.

Bangladesh's PM was just sentenced to death for ordering last year's brutal crackdown.

Are any politicians running on a "We gotta start stacking these fascists like fucking cordwood" platform?

Like yeah I guess I can't stop the richest companies that ever existed but they can't make me like it lol

"hey we stole your music" was the intro and any attempt to say "uh, I don't like that?" has been met with 'WELL YOU CAN'T STOP US' so yeah at this point I'm like well fuck the whole thing and I feel that's fair lol

I mean one big difference is that the problem is not one rando individual, it's multiple of the most powerful and frankly evil people who have ever lived, and it's also shoved in our faces constantly and our lack of consent to it has been rubbed in our faces the whole time

By contrast, the implications for medicine, data analysis, and research are SO positive, and it does suck that that's getting subsumed in the general backlash because of how badly the titans of bullshit are overplaying their hand.

Well, and also from neverending fucking prompts telling us that "AI" has been shoved into previously perfectly functional applications in ways that are tedious and annoying and we've been defaulted into it and can't turn it off lol

Yes, but you can see why it's *confusing* to people only just learning about it and mostly learning about it via overhyped ad campaigns from some of history's greatest monsters or from Bluesky posts by people reacting to those ad campaigns.

So much potential for good from machine learning ("AI") but also so much potential (and already extant!) harm from LLM chatbots and disinfo ops (also, for some reason, "AI") and it's being pushed by some of the worst, least-trustworthy people in human history so of course there's outrage.

I feel like the Musk/Zuck/Bezos types how are deliberately misrepresenting "AI" and developing it in the most loathsome possible manner are a lot more culpable for this kneejerk disdain than the people actually making the case. There are so many good use cases for ML that are getting swept aside.
