i read a lot of your reporting on that beat back then & it did start to develop into a cynical little rebrand cycle. to the point where i wonder how many people intentionally fanned those flames to pivot.

labels really don’t like investing in bands/groups anymore, far easier to do solo deals that can be leveraged into getting either a successful new act or a new songwriter in the stable. fwiw the indies have always been there but they’ve diverged from MTV’s lane a LOT a lot.
