I knew someday this would come in handy.

What mechanism exists for states to capture and hold federal tax revenue except as an employer itself?
January 13, 2026 at 8:34 PM
That’d be my preferred course of action. Maybe you build up to him, but doubt you can start at the top.

Our representatives can vote ‘no’ on funding the government thru 2029; but where they have success in stopping the administration from doing its worst, people will suffer alongside. Because it’s the only real control Congress has w/o SCOTUS.

I don’t believe there are state run clearinghouses for tax revenue though.

For sure.

Sorry. I read the first paragraph sometimes and not the second. My bad.

The Biden admin did really do some effective executive orders as the election approached, but it was after years of perceived inaction. And that the change was so abrupt, it largely served to create a question in people’s minds why it hadn’t been done earlier.

I think a solid majority don’t like the gestapo behavior of ICE, but distinct from that, a majority like the idea of the government actually controlling border crossings and immigration.
January 9, 2026 at 5:28 AM
To be clear, the secret police edition of ICE exists, in part, because dems weren’t credible on immigration control. Im definitely for opposing said secret police and burning dhs to the ground; but the issue of immigration control, and whether government can do it, is unlikely to go away.
January 9, 2026 at 4:32 AM
I get that things are more complicated, but you have to work compete in a world of perceptions you don’t control. ‘They’ll always be stronger’ is surrendering. I think Democrats can create effective (not lezze-faire) border control policy and probably win more votes.
January 9, 2026 at 4:20 AM
Much of the Democratic Party was for decriminalized border crossing in ‘20 & that cost credibility for the party on controlling it. And then when Biden was president they lost control immigration but then it appeared he magically stopped border crossings a few months before the election in ‘24…
January 9, 2026 at 4:20 AM
The dems definitely didn’t run effectively on immigration in 2024. They need to be credible on it. Losing congress and the presidency aside, this is from a yougov poll in October ‘24

People don’t like what republicans are doing. They won’t like a return to effectively doing nothing either.
January 9, 2026 at 3:37 AM
It is an effective cudgel, and “it’s not a real issue til they make it one at opportune times,” is not a worthy strategy.
January 9, 2026 at 3:35 AM
Acting to control immigration is what I’m talking about. It can no longer be an unaddressed part of a democratic platform, or one that stops at an expression of empathy.
January 9, 2026 at 3:32 AM
Immigration control and enforcement will need to exist whether you call it ICE or not. Burning what it is down is fine, but if you don’t advocate control of the border, republicans will keep winning far more often than they should.

Probably depends on the upper:lower ratio. Pretty sure manute bol w/o high waisted pants is a better look.
